ROVERS have been drawn in Checkatrade Trophy Group C alongside Bury and Rochdale.

The draw will conclude next Wednesday (July 12) when one of eight Category One Academy sides will be added to complete the four-team group.

The first part of the draw was announced this morning, with Rovers coming out alongside two of their League One rivals.

The eight Academy sides that they could face are: Everton, Leicester, Manchester City, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Stoke, Sunderland, or West Brom.

Rovers were involved in last season’s competition as one of the 16 academy sides, exiting at the first round stage after defeats to Fleetwood Town, Carlisle United and a draw with Oldham Athletic.

The first round of games will take place on the week commencing August 28.

Accrington Stanley have been drawn out in Group B and will face League One sides Blackpool and Wigan Athletic.
