TONY Mowbray is hoping he can help Bradley Dack recapture his form from two seasons ago after splashing out £750,000 to bring the Gillingham attacking midfielder to Blackburn Rovers.

Dack was named as League One player of the year in 2015/16 but struggled to repeat that form last term as the Gills avoided relegation on the final day of the season.

Gillingham turned down £2million bids from Bristol City for Dack in January 2016, with Rovers snaring him for a fraction of that as the midfielder went in to the final 12 months of his deal at the Priestfield.

And after arriving at Ewood Park, head coach Mowbray is looking for Dack to find the form that saw him score 15 goals, and produce 11 assists, two years ago.

“I’m very pleased,” Mowbray said of the deal.

“I’ve experienced Bradley’s energy and quality when I was at Coventry playing against Gillingham and that particular season, Bradley Dack scored 15 goals from an attacking midfield role.

“I just like his enthusiasm for the game, his energy, his drive, his quality with the ball, he scores goals, he gets in the box, he helps out of possession, he’s just a very good footballer.

“I think we’re getting him at a period where, he’s not at a low, but he didn’t have the greatest season last year, probably because of the frustration and disappointment of not getting his move on the back of such a fantastic season the year before.

“Hopefully we can rekindle that quality that I know he possesses and have a player that will not only help us in this league but if we have the season that we want, hopefully in the next league up as well, he can be a big asset to us.”

Rovers will be looking to bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt next season following relegation last term.

And Mowbray believes that Dack can play a key part in helping the club achieve their ambitions.

The head coach added: “At the end of last season, I talked about hopefully this is the lowest ebb for the club and we have to now start to rebuild and bounce back.

“It’s important to do it with players that can create their own history and become the heroes of the fans.

“Brad is at the right age, he has the right qualities and hopefully he can very quickly become a fans favourite and help the team bounce back out of this division and create his own story at Blackburn Rovers and hopefully it’s one where our career and his career align in a positive way.

“I’m looking forward to working with him. He likes football and I’ve said in the past I like footballers who enjoy watching and talking about the game and he definitely does that.

“So I’m just glad it’s concluded, I’m glad he’s coming into training with us and going through pre-season with us and hopefully he finds his feet quickly and becomes a big asset.”
