THE EFL say clubs have been ‘reminded clubs as to their obligations’ to protect the ‘integrity of the competition’ going in to the final day of the season.

Rovers boss Tony Mowbray queried whether the integrity of the league had been called in to question after Huddersfield made 10 changes for last weekend’s game at relegation rivals Birmingham.

Despite playing with 10 men for over an hour, relegation threatened Birmingham boosted their hopes of staying up with a 2-0 victory against Huddersfield who are sure of a place in the play-offs.

The EFL wrote to Huddersfield to ‘ask for their observations’ at making wholesale changes.

And with plenty still to play for at the bottom of the table on the final day,  the EFL have reminded all sides of their obligations.

A statement read: “Elsewhere last weekend, we saw Huddersfield Town make wholesale changes to their team that played Birmingham City.

“It is very much a subjective matter to determine what constitutes a ‘full strength’ side, however the disappointment of both Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest is understandable.

“Huddersfield have been asked for their observations and reasons for taking the approach that they did.

“This type of approach is another challenge to the integrity of the competition, albeit a different one to the actions of supporters.

“We have reminded all clubs this week as to their obligations in this area.”
