CHARLIE Mulgrew admits there has been a real emphasis on making Blackburn Rovers more organised since the arrival of head coach Tony Mowbray.

Rovers shipped 49 goals in their 31 Championship games under Owen Coyle, but have conceded just twice in the four games since the managerial change.

They will be looking to continue their improved defensive record in this afternoon’s trip to Norwich (3pm) and maintain their advantage over the bottom three.

Mulgrew revealed there has been plenty of work to make Rovers harder to break down under Mowbray, adding: “I think that’s a huge part of things.

“It’s about boxing teams in and having a shape behind the ball when you have it is as important as when you don’t have it.

“There’s been a big emphasis on that and a lot of the goals earlier in the season were probably from not being in a good shape and I think the manager has sorted that and it’s something we need to continue with.

“We defend as a team and attack as a team so a couple of tweaks here and there and bit of organisation has really helped in both areas.

“When we’re attacking we have a plan to lock teams in and everyone is responding to that so long may it continue.

“It (being unbeaten) gives us confidence, but the most important thing is the organisation and the way we have played in those games.”

Rovers have taken just 10 of their 37 points on their travels so far this season but seven of their final 11 games come away from Ewood Park.

Their two wins on the road have come at Derby in September and Newcastle in November where Mulgrew scored the winner in a 1-0 victory.

And the Scotland international added: “We’ve shown that we can win away.

“We’ve been to difficult places like Newcastle and we’ll approach the game with the same attitude and hopefully put in a performance and win matches.

“They (Norwich) will be looking to bounce back after not winning for a few games and we’ll be looking to bounce back after not winning our last match.

“It’s a different challenge for us, hopefully we can get a result as we have a lot of work to put in.

“We will take confidence from our recent run but we won’t get carried away, we know it’s going to be a difficult game but I’m sure the manager will have a game plan and hopefully we stick to it.

“We’ll take one game at a time, not think too far ahead, we have 11 games left and we need to pick up points and go in to every game believing we can win it.”

Rovers were thumped 4-1 on the opening day by Norwich, but the Canaries have found life tougher in the Championship since, sitting nine points off the play-offs with 10 games left.

And Mulgrew added: “Things have changed here since then but they have a lot of quality and will be favourites for the match because of the quality they have.

“We have to match them and hopefully our football can come out on top.

“It will be a difficult game and we can’t hide away from the fact it will be a hard place to go and we’ll need to be up for the fight.”
