OWEN Coyle was disappointed with his side’s reaction to falling behind, and the fact they didn’t leave the New York Stadium with all three points.

A Stephen Kelly own goal saw Rovers leave Rotherham United with a 1-1 draw after Jon Taylor’s deflected effort had given the Millers a 47th minute lead.

For the next 10 or 15 minutes, the hosts dominated, and looked the more likely to score a second as Rovers were cut open at will.

But the arrival of Connor Mahoney once again tipped the game back in Rovers’ favour, as he came up with the assist for the own goal, and saw a late cross headed inches wide by Marvin Emnes.

Rovers missed a host of chances in the first-half, hitting the crossbar in either half, as they came away with a point which still leaves them two points behind Burton Albion.

And Coyle said: “For me, every point is important, particularly away from home, but I don’t think there is any doubt that we merited three points.

“We were positive in how we played, dominated the first-half and probably should have been two goals in front.  I don’t think there can be any debate about that, but we had to be more clinical with those chances.

“We started the second half and found ourselves behind to a deflected goal, a shot that Jason Steele would have saved comfortably but it hit Charlie’s heel and deflected in which was a bit of bad luck on our part.

“If the major disappointment was not coming away with three points, a secondary one was that I was not happy with the reaction to losing the goal.  For about 10 minutes we were like rabbits in the headlights and that’s not what we’re about.

“I think there was a shock at going behind having been so dominant, but you don’t have that time in football and we could have found ourselves on the end of another goal which gives yourselves a lot to do.

“We hung in there, defended a run of corners, and with the substitutions we got that fresh impetus and dominated.

“We had to get back to what we were doing, and we didn’t, which is why we made three very positive changes, and from then we dominated again and had numerous chances to equalise long before we did.

“Even when we did get the equaliser we had further chances to try and win it so there’s no doubt we should have left with three points today from what we put in to the game.

“We could have scored five or six goals today.  Their keeper has made some unbelievable saves, the one from Charlie Mulgrew that he tipped on to the bar was an unbelievable save.

“We showed spirit and character and the disappointment is that we didn’t get the three points that we deserved for our performance for the majority of the game.

“It was an opportunity to get six points from two games, in the end we have four, and we have to now patch ourselves up for another big game on Tuesday at Sheffield Wednesday and look to win our game in hand.”
