OWEN Coyle admits January signings are needed at Blackburn Rovers to help bolster their Championship prospects.

Coyle revealed dialogue is continuing with the club’s owners as to what funds will be made available when the window re-opens next month.

The Rovers boss believes that while doing business early in the window would be beneficial, he admits he will make moves only when the right players become available.

Coyle expects a busy month at Ewood Park to ensure Rovers finish next month with a stronger squad than they currently have.

“It’s important we get the right players in, the ones that can complement and help us moving forward because that’s what we want to do, continue to grow,” he said.

“We’d love to add to the squad in January and bolster and strengthen the squad and that would help elevate us up the table to where we want to be.

“I think it’s important we do business, and good business.

“All I want to do is strengthen the squad and make sure the Blackburn Rovers team and squad that comes out of the window is stronger than the one that went in to the window.

“By doing that, that is naturally going to move us up the table because we’ll be far better for it.”

Coyle made 12 signings in the summer, including six players on loan, after inheriting what he admitted was a “shell of a squad”.

The Rovers boss is keen to either extend the loan of Marvin Emnes from Swansea, with that temporary deal set to expire on January 15, or make a permanent move for the Dutchman.

Emnes was one of two deadline day deals in August along with Charlie Mulgrew, while Tommie Hoban and Derrick Williams joined five days before the August 31 cut off.

And when asked if he would prefer early business this time around, Coyle added: “I think there’s merit in that, but I think it’s also important to get the right player in.

“Ideally you’d love to get your business done on the first day of January but it doesn’t always happen like that.”

Coyle has previously called on the Venky’s to provide investment for new signing and reiterated that message ahead of tomorrow’s home game with Reading: “From my point of view the dialogue continues.

“I have a meeting (on Thursday night) to try and move things on and we’ll see where we get to.”

Rovers have chalked up player sales of around £20million in 2016, with Shane Duffy leaving for Brighton, Grant Hanley joining Newcastle United, as well as Jordan Rhodes making the move to Middlesbrough.

Coyle says losing those three players was a big loss from a squad which finished 15th in the Championship last season.

And the Rovers boss added: “There were £20million worth of players sold from that group so it was always going to be difficult.

“That being said, the challenge doesn’t faze us, we’ve shown that we can be a very good team.

“Ideally we would love to have a full squad fit and available, because that helps everybody, but as it is, we’ll get ready for another big game on Saturday.”
