BLACKBURN Rovers boss Owen Coyle said he was delighted with the club's Austrian training camp as he starts to shape his squad for the new Championship season which kicks off next month.

Danny Graham scored a 62nd-minute goal as Coyle recorded a win in his first game in charge, a 1-0 victory over SV Ried at the Keine Sorgen Arena on Saturday night.

The build-up to that clash, which saw the players put through their paces with triple training sessions in the picturesque setting of Obertraun, involved the five new signings Coyle has made, plus former Manchester United and Sunderland defender, Wes Brown, who is training with Rovers while he weighs up options on his immediate future.

And the manager says he was impressed with the way his players applied themselves to getting up to speed before Norwich City arrive at Ewood Park on Saturday, August 6.

Coyle said: "I've been delighted with the work that the lads have put in, which is all-important.

"It is important that in pre-season we continue to get better physically and mentally for the start of the season, and I've got to say the lads have really applied themselves in all the sessions and it has been a really worthwhile week."

The manager also highlighted the benefit of undertaking a training camp away from Brockhall, so that players can live side by side away from home comforts and, in the process, foster better relationships.

"We've got to know each other, which is important as well in terms of the team spirit, and I think it has gone really," Coyle added.

"We've asked a lot of them, three sessions per day, and they've applied themselves really well.

"We've worked hard, which we have to do, but everyone of them has come out with a smile on their face.

"They are a terrific bunch and I've been really pleased by their whole attitude.

"We've got some good characters, it's a nice mix and I think they've enjoyed each other's company."

The Rovers squad arrived back in England on Sunday and will train at Brockhall this week before travelling to the Globe Arena on Saturday for a triangular tournament against host club Morecambe and League One side Bury.
