LIAM Feeney was back in a Blackburn Rovers shirt for the first time in two years in Austria on Saturday, and the winger was pleased with how it went as his new side ran out 1-0 winners over SV Ried.

The 29-year-old came on as a half-time substitute, replacing Elliott Bennett, and forced the hosts' keeper Reuf Durakovic into a save with a far-post volley.

Feeney then almost set up a second goal, to add to a strike by Danny Graham, when his excellent cross from the right saw Anthony Stokes connect with a first-time shot that Durakovic also kept out.

"I think we dominated the whole game, which is nice to see with it being our first pre-season game," he said.

"They are coming into their season next week so it was a positive from our aspect.

"We were patient with the ball when we needed to be when they sat off, and when we had the chances to attack we did well and got the goal. I think we could have had a couple more."

Feeney revealed that the squad had worked hard under new boss Owen Coyle at their training base in the Austrian Alps, undertaking up to three sessions a day as well as having some time of to relax and bond as a group.

They ventured up the 2,995 metre-high Dachstein Mountains in a cable car, as well as enjoying white-water rafting.

The former Bolton and Millwall player said: "It has been a hard week. The boys have put in a lot of work, we've had a lot of sessions.

"It has been good and we've ended it with a good performance.

"So, overall, we are pleased with it. I think it was a good start."

Feeney will back in action with his new team-mates this weekend when Rovers travel to Morecambe for a three-team tournament which features the Shrimps as well as David Flitcroft's Bury at the Globe Arena.

Tickets for Saturday's triangular tournament are on open sale priced at £12 for adults, £9 seniors (65 and over), £9 students and £5 for juniors (5-18). Up to three Under-14s can enter for free with a full paying adult.
