BLACKBURN Rovers Ladies ensured their name would remain on the Lancashire FA Women’s Challenge Cup following a 2-1 victory over Preston North End at the County Ground in Leyland on Thursday.
Playing in their 13th consecutive final, goals from captain Amie Fleming and Saffron Jordan helped Rovers secure the county crown for the 10th time in the club’s history.
The breakthrough arrived on 34 minutes. Good link-up play between Lynda Shepherd and Ella Toone saw the ball set back to Fleming, who fired goalwards from 25 yards.
Danielle Brown tipped the ball onto the underside of the bar but it wasn’t enough to prevent it from bouncing down over the line.
Yasmine Swarbrick restored parity in in the 65th minute and Preston passed up a golden opportunity to go in front nine minutes later when Natasha Flint put a penalty wide.
And Rovers took full advantage in the 77th minute when Jess Holbrook played in Jordan to score what proved to be the winner.
