TOM Lawrence admits his Blackburn Rovers home debut could not have gone any better.

And now the Leicester City loanee is eager to his force his way into Gary Bowyer’s starting line-up.

In a blistering late cameo Lawrence set up Jordan Rhodes’ second goal before blasting in his first for the club to seal Saturday’s 3-0 success at home to Charlton Athletic.

It was Rovers’ first win of the season at the ninth attempt and a delighted Lawrence said: “It could not have gone better.

“I was just grateful we got the win in the end because in the past few games the lads have deserved a win and not quite got one, so it was good to get the three points.”

Lawrence was introduced by Rovers boss Bowyer in the 75th minute and, with his very first touches, he ran at the Charlton defence and crossed for Rhodes to score.

And 10 minutes later the 21-year-old got in on the act himself after he ended another powerful surge forward with an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.

“The manager just said go on, do your bit for the team, and obviously do my bit going forward as well, which I did,” said Lawrence.

“Jordan’s always in the right position, and he got the goal, and for my goal I found a path through and I just thought, ‘hit one’, and fortunately it’s gone in, so I was glad about that.

“There’s nothing better than scoring and getting three points as well, which is the main thing.

“The lads have been so unlucky in the past few weeks so it was only a matter of time really.

“There’s a good group of lads here, they’ve not changed how they’ve played, they’ve kept going, so like I said, we were due a win and now we’ve got one.”

Lawrence’s last three appearances for Rovers have come from the bench after making his full debut in the 1-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion last month.

And the young Welshman, who will remain at Ewood Park until January 3, said: “It’s a good club, I’m enjoying it, I hope to be playing more, and we’ll see how it goes.

“I’ve come to play games, that’s what I want to do, and I want to help the team get as many wins as we can.”

Bowyer admitted that Lawrence’s devastating display against Charlton has given him food for thought going into Saturday’s trip to fourth-placed Hull City.

The Tigers, who came down from the Premier League last season, have won five and drawn one of their six home matches so far this season, and knocked Swansea City out of the Capital One Cup last night.

“You look forward to the big games and Hull are one of the biggest teams in this league,” Lawrence told Radio Rovers.

“But we’ve got to take the momentum out of the Charlton game and try and get a win.”
