BLACKBURN Rovers Under-21s are one game away from silverware after holding their Southampton counterparts to a goalless draw in the U21s Premier Leage Cup final first leg.
Eric Kinder's young side gave a good account of themselves against more experienced opposition, some of whom have played in the Premier League this season.
Rovers' backline held firm against Saints' 4-2-3-1 formation. The visitors' best chance came in the second half with right back Bevis Mugabi heading narrowly over from a Sam McQueen corner.
Goalkeeper David Raya was rarely stretched, but commanded his box well in order to preserve the clean sheet ahead of next Monday's decisive re-match at St Mary's Stadium.
Rovers had chances to take an advantage to the south coast but David Carson had a couple of second half efforts blocked.
