GARY Bowyer admits he fears his stars could have their heads turned if Blackburn Rovers receive offers from Premier League clubs during the January transfer window.

Rovers are one of three clubs under a transfer embargo in January and Bowyer has criticised the Football League after they confirmed yesterday that no further clubs would face Financial Fair Play sanctions during the transfer window.

The Rovers boss has stressed that the embargo will not force him to sell his stars, with owners Venky’s eager to keep the squad together, but admits that he remains concerned about losing key players.

Captain Scott Dann departed last January after the temptation of a return to the Premier League with Crystal Palace proved too great to turn down, and Bowyer is realistic that the club may yet find themselves in the same situation again this January.

Asked if he expected a difficult transfer window, he said: “It’s going to be no more difficult than last January, when we lost Scott Dann last year and managed to deal with that blow and get Michael Keane in on loan.

“We’re all working hard trying to pre-empt what might happen or not.

“If Premier League clubs are doing their jobs properly they’re looking at our players, it’s as simple as that.

“We’ve got a great core of young players who are putting the pride back into this club, they’re getting more and more experience.

“But there are loads of things that come into it in January.

“What would you do if another company came in for you and doubled the wages that you’re on?

“It’s human nature, of course there’s the potential of people’s head getting turned.

“That’s just life, it’s the same in any industry. You can’t hide from it and you have to be sensible about it.”

The Football League announced a fortnight ago that Rovers, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest would be placed under a transfer embargo during January after falling foul of new Financial Fair Play regulations.

There were suggestions that further clubs could subsequently be hit by an embargo, but Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey confirmed yesterday that no other clubs will be affected in January.

He said: "Based on information that has now been received and reviewed, there will be only three clubs subject to an FFP embargo from January 1, 2015 - Blackburn Rovers, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.”

Rovers’ embargo will allow them to sign players under certain restrictions, but Bowyer admitted that the news that no further clubs would be hit by sanctions surprised him.

“It does, of course it does,” he said.

“It’s well documented that some other clubs have a hell of a lot of debt yet they’re not embargoed. I don’t understand it.

“It’s called Financial Fair Play but how is that fair play then, if other clubs than ourselves have got bigger debts yet are not embargoed? It’s just crazy.

“I think the whole thing has been rushed in and rushed out ready to go with not a lot of thought put to it.

“But it’s something that we have to contend with, we’re not going to use it as an excuse.

“We have to get on with it, cut our cloth accordingly and see what rabbits we can pull out of the hat in January if we need.”
