Summary

  • WELCOME to Ewood Park for the FA Cup third-round tie between Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City. You can follow all the action here with our live blog.

2:38pm

FULL-TIME Rovers 1 City 1.

2:35pm

Jordan Rhodes chips way over after neat work by fellow sub DJ Campbell. Good opening, that. 1-1.

2:33pm

Four minutes of injury time. 1-1.

2:31pm

SUB City. Pablo Zabaleta on, David Silva off.

2:30pm

Dangerous Chris Taylor cross headed behind by Joleon Lescott who was put under pressure by Jordan Rhodes. 88 mins. 1-1.

2:29pm

Tom Cairney goes close, shot on the turn, after DJ Campbell cut back, drifts just past the far post. Rovers on top. 87 mins. 1-1.

2:28pm

City right-back sent off for a silly second yellow card, late challenge of DJ Campbell.

2:28pm

RED CARD City. Dedryck Boyata. 85 mins.

2:26pm

Rovers subs combine on a breakaway. DJ Campbell down the line to Jordan Rhodes, who advances before crossing to on-running Campbell, who sends 12-yard header wide. 83 mins. 1-1.

2:25pm

Great chance for City to win it. Edin Dzeko spreads the ball inside to James Milner who then plays a ball behind the Rovers defence to Jesus Navas. Sub, with time in the box, composed himself but fired wide. 81 mins. 1-1.

2:24pm

SUBS for Rovers. Top Jordan Rhodes and DJ Campbell on, Rudy Gestede and Ben Marshall off. 80 mins. 1-1.

2:19pm

Best save of the match, Paul Robinson. City sub Jesus Navas spins and sends in 25-yard shot which was heading for the bottom corner until Robinson turned it behind. 77 mins. 1-1.

2:17pm

SUB for City. Goalscorer Alvaro Negredo off, Jesus Navas on. 75 mins. 1-1.

2:16pm

Paul Robinson just about gathers Edin Dzeko's thumping 30-yard drive. Thought it was going to bounce through his legs at one point. 74 mins. 1-1.

2:12pm

Brilliant Tommy Spurr, reacting fastest to clear the danger after Alvaro Negredo collected Edin Dzeko's clever reverse pass, spun Grant Hanley and was set to shoot. 69 mins. 1-1.

2:10pm

BOOKING Dedryck Boyata. City right-back, who looks his side's weak link, cautioned for pulling sub Josh King down when he was away. 68 mins. 1-1.

2:08pm

Another long Tommy Spurr throw nervously headed behind by Javi Garcia. 66 mins. 1-1.

2:07pm

SUBS for Blackburn - Josh King for Lee Williamson - and for City - Yaya Toure for Fernandinho. 64 mins. 1-1.

2:07pm

Huge let off for Rovers. Edin Dzeko finds space on the edge of the box, his shot his parried by Paul Robinson into the path of Alvaro Negredo who, with the whole goal to aim at, sends his diving header wide. 63 mins. 1-1.

2:06pm

Attendance is 18,813.

2:05pm

Rovers go close. Jason Lowe cross from the right and Chris Taylor gets in front of Joleon Lescott. But the England centre-back does enough to put Taylor off, the ball flying over the bar. 63 mins. 1-1.

2:04pm

Great defending Grant Hanley, blocking Alvaro Negredo pass to Edin Dzeko, who would have been clean through on goal. City's counter attack came about after a poor pass from Adam Henley. Evenly balanced this one. 61 mins. 1-1.

2:01pm

That was Scott Dann's first goal of the season by the way. Good timing, captain.

2:01pm

Tommy Spurr long throw travels all the way to the back post but Tom Cairney can't turn the ball in. Ewood Park is rocking. 58 mins. 1-1.

1:59pm

Corner met by Rudy Gestede, whose downward header is spilled by Costel Pantilimon into the path of Scott Dann - and the Rovers captain tapped in to level this FA Cup third-round tie.

1:57pm

GOAL 1-1 Rovers. Scott Dann. 56 mins.

1:51pm

Second half is under way - apologies for the late posting of the half-time score.

City have started the half brigthly, couple of important challenges from Tommy Spurr and then Chris Taylor. 49 mins. 0-1.

1:50pm

HALF-TIME Rovers 0 City 1.

1:32pm

Harsh on Rovers who pay the price for switching off at a corner, Edin Dzeko flicking on for the unmarked Alvaro Negredo to turn the ball home at back post.

1:31pm

GOAL 1-0 Manchester City. Alvaro Negredo. 45 mins.

1:26pm

More good work from Ben Marshall down the Rovers left, his inviting cross just evades Rudy Gestede and then Tom Cairney.

Then Lee Williamson plays the ball to Chris Taylor, who find himself free, just inside the area. Midfieder had time and, although a difficult chance, should have done better than blaze over. 41 mins. 0-0.

1:21pm

Best chance of the game wasted by David Silva. Dedryck Boyata to Edin Dzeko and back to Boyata, who pulls the ball back to Silva 12 yards from goal. But on an angle, he side-foots high over the bar. Let off for Rovers. 35 mins. 0-0.

1:19pm

City enjoying their best spell of the game, with David Silva doing his upmost to exert more influence on the match. Paul Robinson yet to be truly tested though. 33 mins. 0-0.

1:16pm

Alert goalkeeping Paul Robinson. Ball was robbed off Adam Henley and played inside to Alvaro Negredo, who showed brilliant skill to lift the ball over Grant Hanley. But Robinson rushed out to stop the Spaniard from getting in a shot. 31 mins. 0-0.

1:14pm

First shot of note for Paul Robinson to save, getting down low to gather Fernandinho's 25-yard strike. James Milner had played him the pass. Rovers continuing to impress. 29 mins. 0-0.

1:12pm

Good claim Paul Robinson, the returning Rovers keeper collecting James Milner's cross confidently after City worked the ball out wide to the left for the England man. 27 mins. 27 mins. 0-0.

1:09pm

BOOKED Matija Nastasic, City's centre-back, became the first player to be cautioned after that last free kick.

1:08pm

Tom Cairney free kick flicked wide by Joleon Lescott for another corner.

From it Cairney crosses and again Scott Dann meets it, his looping header being easily collected by the giant City keeper. 0-0. 22 mins.

1:07pm

Rovers' enjoying their best spell on the match. Surging run from right-back Adam Henley has just brought a free kick on the angle of the box. 21 mins. 0-0.

1:05pm

Great battling work by Chris Taylor in the middle of the park sees him emerge with the ball. He then has Rovers' first shot in anger, his 30-yard effort deflecting wide for a corner.

From the resulting Ben Marshall corner, captain Scott Dann sends a thumping header straight at Costel Pantilimon. 19 mins. 0-0.

1:01pm

City bossing possession - 69% - but Rovers are keeping their shape well, restricting the visitors to little. 15 mins. 0-0.

12:57pm

Just over 10 minutes gone, not a chance of note so far. David Silva, drifting in from the left, trying to pull the strings for City. But Rovers have coped well so far. 0-0.

12:53pm

Jason Lowe turns the ball into the empty net but the referee's whistle had already gone for a handball against Rudy Gestede. 7 mins. 0-0.

12:47pm

We are under way, City kicking toward the Ronnie Clayton Blackburn End.

12:44pm

Returning Paul Robinson gets a rapturous reception by the Rovers supporters after more than a year out.

12:42pm

Five minutes until kick off. As reported, City's supporters have taken over the whole of the Darwen End. City could have sold double the amount of tickets they were given (just under 7,500).

Here come the teams.

12:42pm

Five minutes until kick off. As reported, City's supporters have taken over the whole of the Darwen End. City could have sold double the amount of tickets they were given (just under 7,500).

Here come the teams:

12:22pm

Expecting Rovers to line up with five across midfield with Rudy Gestede up front on his own.

12:21pm

The teams in full are...

Rovers: Robinson, Henley, Dann, Hanley, Spurr, Marshall, Williamson, Lowe, Taylor, Cairney, Gestede. Subs: Eastwood, Kilgallon, King, Campbell, Rhodes, Rochina, Judge.

City: Pantilimon, Boyata, Nastasic, Lescott, Clichy, Milner, Fernandinho, Javi Garcia, Silva, Negredo, Dzeko. Subs: Hart, Kompany, Zabaleta, Kolarov, Yaya Toure, Jesus Navas, Lopes.

12:20pm

City, chasing glory on four fronts and with a Capital One Cup semi-final first leg at home to West Ham United to come in four days’ time, make seven changes to the team that started their 3-2 victory at Swansea City which kept them one point off top spot in the Premier League.

But boss Manuel Pellegrini is still able to name players of the calibre of Fernandinho, David Silva, Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko in his starting line-up – and the likes of Joe Hart, captain Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure and Jesus Navas to call on from the bench.

12:19pm

The 34-year-old takes the place of Simon Eastwood between the posts and is one of three changes to the Rovers side which started the 2-1 Championship win at Leeds United on New Year’s Day.

Top scorer Jordan Rhodes and DJ Campbell drop to the bench and are replaced by Adam Henley and the suspension-free Jason Lowe.

12:18pm

Big team news for Rovers is that goalkeeper Paul Robinson makes his return to the first team for the first time in more than a year.

The former England number one, who has now fully recovered from the blood clot on his lung that threatened his life, has not played for Rovers’ first team since the 4-1 home defeat to Cardiff City on December 7, 2012.

Robinson has played in behind-closed-doors friendlies and for the club’s under-21s team after returning to full training.

12:18pm

Good afternoon, just under half-an-hour before the third-round FA Cup tie between former Premier League champions Rovers and City gets under way.

Well played very good game to watch. Replay monies will also help the debt problem.
Well done to Paul Robinson, not to blame for goal.
All players played well. Never mind bust up at half time, just shows how wound up they were.
Hopefully keep Dingles of these pages.
Let us see how they do.

Can't believe what I just watched! City looked like they were playing for Oscars rather than the FA Cup. Manipulation of the punters for a pay day for woevers.
Woevers weren't good, not in the slightest, City threw it just enough for the draw, and Boyatta got himself sent off to give Pellegrini an excuse! Football shame!

Credit were it is due. Some decent players who could knock the ball around and they worked hard for the cause. Rovers weren't bad either. (Only joking!) Bowyer is doing ok. However, all those empty blue seats. Venkys legacy. I feel so sorry for the fans who do attend as the atmoshere at times was very poor. Not your fault, of course, the thousands like me are not to blame either. Just two or three people thousands of miles away are responsible. Shame.

I can't get angry enough today to go for the jugular so I am asking you nicely to please stop using Venkys as an excuse for no longer supporting the club. We all understand that living on a pension is not easy and its a struggle for an octogenarian to get to Ewood so if you must follow our progress from your armchair try to be a little less bitter. Take a leaf out of Dareners book; you might get a bit more out of life.
