WHEN you look at clubs in the Championship who have spent £8million to £10million on strikers recently, Rudy Gestede is an unbelievable bargain at £200,000.

We’ve all said that we can’t be too reliant on Jordan Rhodes, he can’t score all the time and there will always be a spell when he struggles for goals, but now we’ve got goals from Rudy, who has continued his form from last season, and also midfielders like Ben Marshall and Tom Cairney are contributing as well.

He didn’t have a great goal scoring record before he came here, but Gary obviously saw something he liked and this club has undoubtedly got the best out of him.

I just hope he can keep doing it over a number of seasons, and he isn’t a one season wonder like Roque Santa Cruz.

Ideally we want him and Jordan Rhodes to stay together and score the goals that take Rovers to the Premier League, and then prove that they can do it at that level.

My only concern about the partnership is that when Rudy is scoring, Jordan Rhodes doesn’t tend to find the back of the net, but hopefully that will come.

The team is putting more crosses into the box this season, and there is no doubt Rudy is thriving on that. The crosses are coming in at the right time as well for the movement of the strikers, there is a good understanding there.

He has added an aerial prowess up front, Jordan can score goals for fun with the ball at his feet, and gets a couple of headers, but Rudy is very strong in the air.

There is a lot of creativity in the team which is helping the strikers at the moment. Creating chances is obviously something they have worked on and it is paying off, this side always look a threat when they are going forward.

It’s a great position to be in for Rovers at the moment, but you can’t secure anything before Christmas. What you can do though is get yourself in a good position heading into the New Year, ready to have a real good go in the second half of the season.
