CHORLEY smashed a 51-year club record when they won 3-2 at home to Atherton Collieries in the second round of the Lancashire FA Trophy.

The Magpies have now recorded 10 successive wins for the first time in their history.

Their previous longest run was nine games in 1962.

But the Evo-Stik Premier Division leaders were made to sweat before progressing to the quarter finals of the competition.

Atherton Colliries, who play in the North West Counties League First Division, threatened an upset when Paul Atherton’s 13th-minute strike gave them an interval lead.

But two goals in five second half minutes handed the advantage back to Chorley with Darren Stephenson and Simon Wiles on target.

A Kieran Halliwell own goal then put the Magpies 3-1 up.

Atherton were not finished though and Gareth Peat made it a nervy finish for Chorley with an 89th minute strike.

But the home side held on to win 3-2.

Nelson made light of a two-division gap as they dumped out Lancaster City.

Mark Fell’s side, who play in the North West Counties First Division, were 3-1 winners away from home to book their place in the last eight of a competition they last won in 1955.

Jonny Hession gave the visitors a fourth-minute lead.

And it got better for Fell’s men when Sakil Abdullah doubled the advantage just before the half hour.

David Swarbrick halved the deficit on 65 minutes for the home side, who are managed by former Blackburn Rovers defender Darren Peacock.

With the hosts pressing for an equaliser, Nelson sealed the win in the final minutes when Daniel Moss made it three.

Ramsbottom United are also in the hat after they won 4-1 at home to Evo-Stik League Division One North neighbours Padiham.

Jordan Hulme inspired the home side with a second half hat-trick after Daniel Warrender put the Rams in front on 58 minutes.

Padiham were three down by the time Dominic Craig netted with seven minutes to go.

Hulme completed his treble in the final minute.

Bacup and Rossendale Borough were 2-0 winners away at North West Counties League Premier Division strugglers Wigan Robin Park.
