Congleton 0 Bacup and Rossendale Boro 1
Bacup and Rossendale Borough bounced back from the nightmare cup tie against Atherton Collieries with a gritty and determined win over 10-man Congleton Town.
Simon Thompson netted the winner 10 minutes from time to give struggling Bacup three vital points.
Manager Brent Peters made no fewer than five changes to his starting line-up with 18-year-old goalkeeper Matthew Green making his debut for the Borough after recently arriving from Curzon Ashton.
And he was called in to action early on to deny Scott Sephton.
Bacup had chances to take the lead in the first half with Thompson and Adrian Bellamy both going close.
After the break Thompson was denied by the post while his follow up flew across the face of the goal.
With time ticking away there was to be one more pivotal and deciding moment in the match when Daniel Cocks received the ball with space in the centre of midfield and he threaded a lovely ball down the left hand side to Thompson who emphatically struck it into the far corner.
Green then made a late save to ensure Bacup got the points.
