A DERBY day to remember was voted as Rovers’ fans game of the 2000s.
There is no better feeling than securing local bragging rights and the 5-0 April Fool’s Day demolition over Burnley was a day to remember for Rovers.
But it only just topped our poll, securing 37 per cent of the voting and winning by a single percent from the 2002 League Cup victory at the Millennium Stadium over Tottenham.
The winning derby victory completed a double over Rovers’ East Lancashire rivals and also moved Graeme Souness’ side a step closer to a return to the Premier League.
Craig Short had started the rout with a 13th minute opener and then set up the second set which was turned into his own net by Steve Davis.
Matt Jansen scored twice in the second half and Craig Hignett came off the bench to complete the famous victory.
In third place was the memorable 4-3 victory over Manchester United in February 2006 when David Bentley celebrated his permanent deal at Rovers with a hat-trick.
