Ramsbottom United 5 St Helens Town 0 Ramsbottom United did their title chances the world of good with a comprehensive win over St Helens Town.

The home side’s assault on the visiting goal began in the first minute with Jon Robinson heading wide from a corner.

They took the lead on 11 minutes. Jon Robinson chased a through ball on the right hand side of the area, before squaring it back for the on-rushing Grant Spencer who had the simplest of tasks of sliding the ball home.

On 19 minutes, it was 2-0. Dean raced down the left before crossing for Robinson to convert with ease.

Flannery was inches away just minutes later, before the home side increased their advantage on 26 minutes.

The ball bounced around the area before falling kindly for the unmarked Spencer on the left-hand side of the box. His fierce drive gave Brinksman no chance, and just seven minutes later, it was four.

Spencer sent over a floated cross which eventually fell at the feet of Lee Gaskell, who merely had to touch the ball home from close range whilst the Saints defenders merely looked on.

Sub Keiron Pickup should have done better when he fired wide with his first touch, but man-of-the-match Spencer was not to be denied a well-deserved hat-trick on 63 minutes.

The only downside for the Rams was the dismissal of Danny Warrender after 56 minutes for a second yellow card.

Ramsbottom need to won both their remaining games to guarantee the title and promotion into the Evo-Stik League.
