STEVEN Defour has confirmed an operation on a troublesome knee injury has been a success.
Burnley's Belgian midfielder went under the knife on Monday after scans revealed a problem with his knee cartilage.
The 29-year-old had played through the pain barrier in recent weeks but a scan showed an issue that needed an operation.
Defour took to Instagram to confirm the surgery had been successful, but he is set to be out for the remainder of the season and is likely to miss the World Cup this summer.
Speaking last week Sean Dyche said: "It is likely to be the season.
"Credit to Steven, his mentality has been solid this year and he wanted to carry on with it.
"He had a sore knee but it was nothing major he was managing it wisely and it was only a precautionary scan that showed some cartilage off his knee.
"There’s a strong chance it will be the season."
