NAHKI Wells will need to get more minutes under his belt before he will be available for selection for Burnley, according to boss Sean Dyche.
After playing an hour for the Under-23s against Nottingham Forest a week ago the striker came through his first 90 minutes on Tuesday in a behind-closed-doors game against Sheffield United.
But the £5million deadline day acquisition from Huddersfield is still in 'pre-season mode' and won't yet to be considered for first-team selection.
Dyche also confirmed Jon Walters remained an absentee with a knee injury, while Dean Marney also came through a second 45 minutes against the Blades at Turf Moor this week.
"Nahki Wells got his first full 90 minutes but he’s still in pre-season mode," Dyche said. "If you imagine a normal pre-season players would have three or four 90 minutes. We’ll get as many minutes into him as we can before he becomes part of what you’d consider the squad.
"Jon Walters is ongoing. Dean Marney got another 45 minutes but we’re not rushing him back, he could have played on for longer but it’s appropriate at this moment."
