CLARETS boss Sean Dyche says veteran goalkeeper Paul Robinson’s experience is ‘great value’ to the club, even though he hasn’t made the bench for the last two matches.

The 37-year-old has featured three times for Burnley this season but he made way among the replacements for youngster Nick Pope against Stoke City at Turf Moor last Tuesday, and again at Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

Dyche, however, says he always wanted to give former Charlton glovesman Pope, 24, more experience on a Premier League matchday.

Pope has yet to make a top flight appearance for the Clarets this season but has played in three FA Cup ties and the EFL Cup defeat to Accrington Stanley.

And Dyche said: “Robbo knew all along the plan was Popey would start coming into it. He’s got to get used to all this and experience it.

“We wanted him to develop as a keeper, even though he’s not playing a lot of football, but get used to what it is and over the season he would start getting involved because he needs to understand the whole feeling.

“Robbo was in the stand (at Middlesbrough) and came down with some information, and he’s been in the game a long time and understands it.

“There’s great value to having someone like him about.”

Robinson is out of contract at Turf Moor this summer and asked if the former Leeds and Spurs keeper could stay beyond the summer, Dyche said: “We’ll be chatting to him about it.”
