Tom Heaton 6

A spectator in the first half until the equaliser arrived. Was oh so close to getting to Can’s long-range strike.

Matt Lowton 8 (Man of the Match)

Good movement to find space for the goal and then delivered an excellent low ball for Barnes to convert. Strong defensively against Coutinho as well and looks confident, which he should be given some fine recent performances.

Michael Keane 8

Commanding in the air when Liverpool looked for Divock Origi and read the game very well.

Ben Mee 8

Like Keane he won a lot of aerial balls, particularly from a string of corners in the first half. Unlucky with the equaliser.

Stephen Ward 7

Enjoyed freedom to get forward early on and then stood up to threat of Mane’s pace well when Liverpool responded.

George Boyd 7

Blazed one effort over but little going forward aside from that. An improved defensive display on last week.

Joey Barton 6

Not at his best in the middle of the pitch but difficult against Liverpool’s three central midfielders.

Jeff Hendrick 7

Likewise found it tough going in the centre, but his delayed pass to Lowton for the goal was a smart piece of play.

Scott Arfield 7

A surprise inclusion ahead of Robbie Brady, probably for his defensive work and tracked back well to support Ward.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Ashley Barnes 7

Took his goal really well at the back post and tried to ruffle a few feathers for the rest of the afternoon.

Andre Gray 7

Looked to target Klavan with his pace, a tactic which worked well in the early stages but had less joy in the second half.
