SEAN Dyche labelled Steven Defour’s stunning strike against Bristol City as ‘sublime’ as the Clarets cruised into the FA Cup fifth round.

The Belgium midfielder sealed the win with a stunning lofted finish midway through the second half, having set up Sam Vokes for the opening goal on the stroke of half-time.

Having made eight chances Dyche was once again pleased with how his fringe players shone in the cup to book a spot in the last 16, but it was Defour’s second goal for the club that lit up the occasion.

“In my time here the fans have been fortunate to see some good stuff and successful football, but that was a sublime finish,” said Dyche.

“If it was in the Premier League they'd be showing it a thousand times.

“I said in the last round I enjoyed the way the team played and I think today there was a lot of positive things.

“There's players who just let you know that they are ready all the time. It's a great mentality.

“I mentioned in the last cup game how important the players who are not always in the side are and here they are vital because they look after themselves and they're ready to go when called upon.”

Victory over the Robins was a sixth home win in a row for Burnley and Dyche was delighted to see his side progress.

“We controlled a lot of the first half,” said the Clarets chief.

“We scored a very good goal just before half-time and obviously that was a very important goal as well because we had been on the back foot a little bit.

“And then in the second half we were in good form and I thought we came out worthy winners in the end but that's no disrespect to Bristol because they made it tough and they played well and that's why I was pleased.

"I've just seen a couple of results and it is the cup, some odd things can happen and we wanted to take care of what we had to do today and I thought we did, and we did it in a controlled manner."
