SEAN Dyche has confirmed that he is in talks with Joey Barton about the midfielder’s future.

Barton, who arrived at Turf Moor on a free transfer in August, revealed he has told the Burnley boss that he wanted to stay, regardless of which division the Clarets find themselves in next season.

The 33-year-old signed a deal until the end of the 2015/16 campaign with the belief that Dyche’s men would be successful in their mission for an immediate Premier League return.

Burnley are well placed to achieve their goal.

But even if that proved not to be the case, Barton said: “The gaffer knows exactly where I stand on the contract situation.

“In the next few weeks or months if they want me to stay the gaffer knows my feelings on it.

"It’s not promotion dependent. I’m enjoying my football here.”

And Dyche confirmed: “We always have lines of communication open with all of our players, he’s just one of them.”
