TO go 10-and-a-half hours without scoring is definitely relegation form.

For Danny Ings to get the only goal of the game against Hull must have been a great weight off his shoulders.

But it wasn’t any use as we still got relegated.

MORE TOP STORIES:

If we only played Hull City every week we would be champions, for that is the fifth time in a row we have won at the KC Stadium.

Looking back at our form this season I honestly feel the whole team have given their best.

So let’s not have any Clarets fans saying nasty things.

This is the Premier League where the best players in the world play.

Our wee town team can hold their heads up as they have not disgraced themselves.

They have been criticised for failing to be competitive. What a load of rubbish.

We lost a lot of games through a lack of taking our chances. That is the only criticism I have of the squad.

We all know it’s goals that count and the chances have been created through some great build-ups.

I know it’s easy watching from the stands but being out on the pitch is a different story.

So now that Danny has ended his goal drought, which team will he join? Only Danny can make that decision.

But I sincerely hope Sean Dyche remains as manager and also keeps the rest of the squad together, although I fear that Kieran Trippier could also follow Danny in leaving the club.

Someone who I’d dearly love to extend his already long stay at Turf Moor, though, is Michael Duff.

He is out of contract in the summer but I’d love him to be offered a new one and I still think he has got plenty to offer in the Championship.

He’s had a tremendous season in the Premier League and seems to be getting better with age.

I was glad he got his red card against West Ham rescinded to make him available to play against Hull, and he was terrific again alongside Jason Shackell. They have proved a very stubborn duo to break down for top flight teams.

But now we must begin to think of next season in the Championship.

I hope that this squad can bounce back to the Premier League immediately.

The fans have been magnificent and supported the team right through the whole season.

They will all be back again next season and relegation will be a distant memory as we look to mount another challenge.

The saying goes, once a Claret always a Claret. I know this is true for 52 years ago last Monday I made my debut for the first XI against Arsenal. And I’m very pleased to say I’m always a Claret.
