BURNLEY’S spirit remains as strong as ever despite heading into the final six games of the Premier League season in the relegation zone, according to full back Kieran Trippier.

The 24-year-old insisted the Clarets will continue to ignore people writing their side off as the season edges towards its finale.

Burnley were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal on Saturday to remain in the drop zone, but they are just two points behind Hull City and three behind Sunderland after both sides suffered weekend defeats.

Trippier was left frustrated after the loss to Arsene Wenger’s in-form side and he was disappointed with the way his side conceded to Aaron Ramsey after just 11 minutes.

“I thought we gave a bad goal away,” said the full-back.

“We could have prevented it but that’s the difference in this league - you give chances to Arsenal and they will put it away.

“We’re disappointed we didn’t come out with a point in the end.

“We’re playing Arsenal, a world class team, we’re just frustrated at how we conceded the goal, and that’s what hurt us.

“They’re on a run of form, and it says a lot that we’re disappointed we didn’t get the points, but we move on to Everton.”

After conceding that early goal Burnley remained resilient at the back and Arsenal rarely threatened to add to their advantage.

Trippier added: “I was speaking to Heats (Tom Heaton) and I can’t remember them testing him.

“Second half Alexis Sanchez had a good opportunity, but apart from that we defended well and got our blocks in.”

Despite the defeat the former Manchester City youngster is taking heart from the fact that the Clarets remain in the fight to survive with just six games left.

“We knew it was going to be difficult moving into this league and people were writing us off but we’re still there, we’re still fighting and we’ve got six massive games now and we will take it game by game as we have all season,” he said.

“We give everything and that’s the thing about our team - we’ve got a spirit and our belief is so strong, and every game we’re playing we give everything.

“People can see that so hopefully we can get the points we need to stay in this league.”

On a personal level Trippier was happy with the way he defended against Arsenal’s star-studded attack, with Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla playing behind Olivier Giroud.

But Trippier, an ever-present in the Premier League this season, was disappointed with his contribution going forward.

“I thought my defending was okay but my attacking was poor, every time I tried to cross the ball I hit the first man and I’m disappointed in myself for that,” he added.
