BURNLEY kept England star Harry Kane quiet as they drew at home to Tottenham Hotspur at Turf Moor this afternoon.

Neither side created many clear-cut chances in the Premier League clash, with Danny Ings squandering the best opportunity early on as he saw his shot saved by Michel Vorm.

That chance came within five minutes of the start as George Boyd dispossessed Ryan Mason in a dangerous area and played in Ings, who raced clear of the Spurs defence but fired straight at goalkeeper Vorm.

Nacer Chadli saw a low 20-yard effort saved by Tom Heaton for the visitors, before Danny Rose lashed a long-range strike off target.

Sam Vokes fired wide from outside the box for Burnley before Kane – named Spurs captain for the first time – made his first real contribution of a quiet first half as he surged forward but dragged his low 25-yard effort off target.

Heaton then saved a deflected shot from Christian Eriksen, with Boyd firing wide at the other end.

Ings soon cut inside and tested Vorm with a curling 25-yard shot that the keeper had to tip over the bar.

Vorm saved from Ashley Barnes after the interval but neither side was creating clear-cut chances and Eriksen blasted a shot over the bar after a clever run.

Kane was looking isolated up front and the only chance of the closing stages went to Burnley as substitute Lukas Jutkiewicz headed the ball across goal and Boyd nodded it just wide of the far post.

The game always looked likely to end in a goalless draw as neither side did enough to win it.
