Burnley sign former Blackburn Rovers star Steven Reid

Lancashire Telegraph: Steven Reid Steven Reid

BURNLEY have completed the signing of former Blackburn Rovers man Steven Reid.

The 33-year-old was a free agent after the expiry of his contract at West Bromwich Albion and has agreed a one-year deal at Turf Moor.

Reid represented Blackburn between 2003 and 2010, and Burnley boss Sean Dyche said: “Steven is a very strong minded professional and he has had years in the Premier League so he has that bit of experience and know how.

“I know him personally from his younger days at Millwall and he was a very solid pro then and he still is now, perhaps a more rounded version of what he was then.

“Along with Matty Taylor we want that experience in the building as well as the vibrancy in the team.

“Both of those players played in some really awkward games for West Brom and West Ham respectively, and hopefully that experience can rub off on others.”

Good experienced cover for Trippier, only a one year deal so no risk.

And to all the Blackburn numpties who will doubtless post on here, please answer a simple question: Would you want Reid to sign for Blackburn, given the problems you have had a full back recently?

If the answer is yes, which it obviously is, then please refrain from being a hypocrite and posting on this thread.

Thanks in advance.

Not happy, can we only sign last payday journeymen on massive wages, this guy used to have his own medical team when he was at Ewood and that was four years ago.
Also I cannot handle him being pictured in a Rovers shirt on his wikipedia page, a club he spent 7 years at and gave the best years of his career which are now well and truly behind him.
Still I suppose if we are involved in a relegation battle, this is exactly the kind of player you need to stay in it.

Not so sure about this one but Sean seems to know what he's doing most of the time so we just have to trust his judgement. Just a question mark over his age really. The Rovers connection is irrelevant because players move around so much these days it's hard not to come up with certain connections. Besides, I'll be delighted when we pick up Rhodes for a knockdown fee when FFP kicks in at Bollywood.

"Blackburn put £10m price tag on Jordan Rhodes as Norwich step up their interest.

It is rumoured that Rhodes has requested a pay rise after an £8m bid from Norwich City was rejected.

The 24-year-old joined Blackburn for £8m from Huddersfield Town in 2012 and the Yorkshire club will stand to collect 20 per cent of any profit made if the striker is sold.

The Canaries will benefit from parachute payments following their relegation from the Premier League last season and are looking to bounce back at the first attempt.

They have recently lost Robert Snodgrass, who joined Hull City for £6m, and they also look likely to lose strikers Gary Hooper and Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Blackburn have signed two strikers in Chris Brown and Luke Varney but they are desperate to keep Rhodes."

It is simply because it ensures internet traffic keeps visiting this website. It is a headline that catches the eye of Rovers fans as well as Burnley fans, so it's win win for the LT.

Sadly it's the pathetic falling out and playground attitudes of many on here that mean a coherent discussion on the topic cannot take place.

Another sad trait of this site is a lack of moderation which allows each comment thread to descend into childish nonsense.

News this lunchtime from The Huddersfield Daily Examiner who are full of talk of a windfall for The Terriers should Jordan Rhodes leave Blackburn Rovers. Rhodes joined Rovers for £8m in 2012 and a sell on clause will mean 20% of any sale going to Huddersfiled Town.

The paper reports that Norwich City have already bid £8m but that this has been turned down, with Blackburn putting a £10m price on him. With news of Harry Redknapp's renewed interest in Gary Hooper and £7m in the bank from the sale of Robert Snodgrass, this sort of fee isn't beyond Norwich City.

Neil Adams' bid for Callum Wilson last week shows that he wants another striker and should Hooper move on then it will need to be a good one with a proven record. It doesn't come any better than Rhodes at this level with the lad notching 53 goals in 95 appearances for Rovers.

He is under contract till 2017 so a large fee looks to be the only way he will be prised from Blackburn's grasp.

Reid has played all his career in the PL - so Yes

Sordell is only 23, a former England U21 international that was signed for 33 million two season ago, and he only cost us a measly £500k so Yes.

Question for you - Do you think that Varney and Brown are good signings to allow a mid-table Championship club to improve into a play-off position?

Obviously though he looks good playing with all the other worse-than-useless players that surround him at Trampburn so no wonder he won your prestigious (lol) Player Of The Season Award.

Bit of a hole in look ups wet dream, according to him Rovers were going to sell Rhodes at a loss and entertain bids of 6 million, does that mean Huddersfield have to pay Rovers 20% of the difference?
Unlike Look up I am a Burnley fan with realistic expectations and so far the signings we have made are for when we go back down, hence Reid on a 12 month and Taylor on short term as well. This whole thing stinks of ambitionless backroom who are resigned to relegation already, when Hull went up they spent 27 million on players, Burnley have so far spent 500k if you don't include players we already had. LOL @ the no-dads getting all excited about Burnley bringing in proven experienced backup players.... how very desperate.

Had we lost Kieran Trippier, like you assured us we would do over the summer, then I could see you having grounds for a joke or two at our expense... however, Trippier signed a new 3 year contract and the championship player of the year in his position for two years running is our first choice right back going into the Premier League.

In addition we have now signed vastly experienced cover in Reid, not a bad move really. Have you nothing else no-dads?

Perhaps someone might comment on the Rhodes to Norwich issue that just keeps reappearing.. I believe Norwich today had an offer of £8m rejected and an offer of £10m is about to come in after a price was put on him by Blackburn Rovers... Interestingly Blackburn will only receive £5.6m of this given that £4m is still owed to Huddersfield Town from the original transfer plus the £400,000 sell-on clause...

And considering Venky's have an £8m parachute payment deficit to cover before anything else I suspect there will be £zero made available to Gary Bowyer... which is just as well as he's already signed Varney and Brown as replacements... oh dear.

What
a
shambles.

Course they want him, that's why they let him go all those years ago!!!
He is injury prone and its a totally depressing player to sign.
Instead of banging on at rovers try sending a message to the turf telling them to get real and sign some quality, not players that cant even get in the west brom side.

Taylor has played the last 12 season in the PL so Yes

Reid has played all his career in the PL - so Yes

Sordell is only 23, a former England U21 international that was signed for 33 million two season ago, and he only cost us a measly £500k so Yes.

Question for you - Do you think that Varney and Brown are good signings to allow a mid-table Championship club to improve into a play-off position?
Reid hasn't played all his career in the PL fool he was at Millwall
For the last 12 years then dumbass.
Oh and if Sordell was signed for 33 million were Real Madrid and Barcelona aware of his availability before he signed for BFC

I know they have been pummelled unrelentingly for some time now and I can only they are ‘Punch Drunk’. Or – is it something more serious. Maybe loosely related to ‘ Stokholm Syndrome’ we now have ‘Blackburn Syndorme’. Unless treated this could end in mass suicides – hundreds jumping of Darwen St Bridge. I wonder if Tom Tit’s psychiatrist is still available for comment on this new syndrome? Maybe not because I think he gave Tom up as a lost cause.

Reid is an excellent signing and Dyche will, as usual, get his best from the mix of great professionals he's bringing together.
This is starting to look like a great squad that will undoubtedly stay in the Premier League.

Tick tock..... the Blackburn Rovers Championship expiry date is edging ever closer...
It certainly is PL! here we come keep the place warm for us we will be replacing one EL team with another.
Still it looks like the supporterst are of the same opinion as there is only 13.5k of us bothering to turn out for our biggest season in 40 years
Pathetic
Yeah when are you gonna spend some of this 60 million prem money lol.

Now don't be a silly Rover deliberately understating what we have earned because we won promotion with three shillings spent. It's £120m - a matter of double. Have a very little and use it well , rather than get given loads then win the prize. Moral superiority is so sweet.

Don't like constructive criticism, the fact is you are signing players who are not good enough to play ( in reids case always on the phisiyos table) in the prem, poor choice of signings imo.

When and what we spend any transfer money on I would have thought was not of much interest to a BRFC fan. Would they not be more interested in their own desperate decision to dump at great expense the quality PL players who wouldn't even turn out for them? A slash and burn transfer policy to try get with FFP for next season -,not this one that's gone already. So they sit in the bottom of a skip burning tenners and have the brass neck to comment on the sense they never had being played out downthe road. Expect pre match bucket rattling at every ground in 2015-16. Spare a quid to rescue the club. Loons.

Reid is an excellent signing and Dyche will, as usual, get his best from the mix of great professionals he's bringing together.
This is starting to look like a great squad that will undoubtedly stay in the Premier League.

We're in the Premier League, you're a division below us, we beat you along the way, it actually happened, you can't change it, you'll just have to deal with it.

Blackburn Rovers 1 - 2 Burnley
How does that sound?
Don't like constructive criticism, the fact is you are signing players who are not good enough to play ( in reids case always on the phisiyos table) in the prem, poor choice of signings imo.

Tick tock..... the Blackburn Rovers Championship expiry date is edging ever closer...
It certainly is PL! here we come keep the place warm for us we will be replacing one EL team with another.
Still it looks like the supporterst are of the same opinion as there is only 13.5k of us bothering to turn out for our biggest season in 40 years
Pathetic
Yeah when are you gonna spend some of this 60 million prem money lol.
Now don't be a silly Rover deliberately understating what we have earned because we won promotion with three shillings spent. It's £120m - a matter of double. Have a very little and use it well , rather than get given loads then win the prize. Moral superiority is so sweet.
Wrong 60 millon when you go down which you surely will.
That's a good point actually. If you stay up its more. Quick check shows that its £60m through season and £73m if fourth to bottom. Even greater moral superiority! £133m.

65 years by the way. Good eh?

Didn't Boater sign a very capable league 1 striker then ask his wide men (or was it midfield?) to chip in an extra 30 goals? This is the difference. Rovers' defence is pretty poor, Lights chipped in with very few goals but each was crucial because they meant 3 points. Rovers fans must be blind if they can't see the reason they did nothing and will do nothing is precisely because they leak at the back like an old Labrador. So they snear at a player who let's face it left them for a reason and who would add some balls to their back line. They started every game 1:0 down on paper and yet our amazing defence, strengthened further, they think is inferior to their own blue and white surrender monkeys. Deluded they really do think the wrong team went up. Up against Chelsea we sure will have our work cut out, but winning 18 games and shipping 72, 3 to Carlisle? Bend over Blackburn your boys do seem to like it up em!

Morning yer goon, well today was the day that Ings was set to sign a new deal, even though it was actually yesterday, so whats been the holdup, Well all was good and things were moving forward until Ings and his agent got wind of Rhodes getting 50k a week if he moves to Norwich, so now Ings agent says he needs more time to think it over.

I use news now premier league when I'm picking my dream team. You have to know whose going and staying, I mean what if I picked Ings and he went to Norwich? I'd look pretty stupid then wouldn't I? You seem to have cornered the market in this area mind, but are you up for the dream team challenge or just FOS ?

Brilliant signing!
The premier league days will certainly be full of amazing skill and very entertaining football.

Oh...Wait, he's 33 Now. How can midfielders like reid compete with rising stars such as Tom Cairney (Who has already proved he is way above the mark).

Championship Here You Come!
Your doom and gloom you. Your the manager are you? Don't you think SD knows what he is doing ? If you don't like it then get a ticket for down he road.

Some people always know better than the managers , NOT.

Keep up the good work SD

Not so sure about this one but Sean seems to know what he's doing most of the time so we just have to trust his judgement. Just a question mark over his age really. The Rovers connection is irrelevant because players move around so much these days it's hard not to come up with certain connections. Besides, I'll be delighted when we pick up Rhodes for a knockdown fee when FFP kicks in at Bollywood.
Rovers rejects haha.. Same old burnley, obsessed with rovers!!!!
And yet here you are on an article about Burnley signing a new player.

Burnley obsessed hypocritical Blackburn scruffmonkey.

Again and again and again, we have the world's greatest football pundits from deadwood telling us how it is !!!!! Oh, and that being on a Claret thread !!!

Fact, "In Dyche We Trust", got us, at poor old Burnley, promoted to the Premier League, yes I know hard to believe, but it's true!!!

Fact, deadwood is still a championship club !!! again hard to believe, but true !!!

The past is the past, and we can only hope that things turn out well in the future, but omg the deadwood crystal ball pundits are really on a roll !!!!

What will be, will be. If we are relegated, we will have enjoyed the ride, and will enjoy the monies to, but we will be debt-free with the added bonus that we could again be promoted, but we will enjoy the ride and the manner in which we play the beautiful game, and whoever is playing for us at the time will be under the guidance of Mr Sean "In Dyche We Trust".

So we will enjoy the PL next Season and be pushing for promotion the Season after IF the worst happens, but we WILL enjoy the ride and the football along the way.

What can be said of the situation at deadwood looking forward to the next 2 years? Promotion next Season?Or the Season after?

When Burnley, black-pool/burn and Bolton were all looking for New Manager's around the same time, each Club made it's choice, the rest is history, so when looking into the crystal ball, please take into account the current situation and how it will affect the future.

We Dared to Dream, have our feet firmly on the ground, looking forward to the future, because we have a good man in charge, who is very good at getting the best out of an individual and building a great Team mentality. We will enjoy "In Dyche We Trust" locking horns with the rest of the PL, and whatever happens, the Manager and the Club will learn from this adventure and both be stronger.

This has been a massive story for the Blackburn fans – they obviously like to keep abreast of developments in the Premier League and have become infatuated with Burnley. It’s obvious it’s called the ‘Blackburn Syndrome’.

Are the Blackburn fans really still pulling themselves around their bedrooms over this signing? We've brought in an experienced backup player and they are thrapping like we've sold Trippier!

LOL! Desperate times for the fatherless ones.

As far as I'm aware 90% of all Blackburn fans have logged in and come on this thread to take p1ss out of us for signing Reid, therefore there must be something in it.
I don't think they would have bothered if we had signed Kompany or Suarez or even Sturridge, so we can assume that Reid is pants
It so funny reading your posts where you pretend to be a Burnley fan. I can understand Rovers fans commenting on how the club is run, but why the interest in who we sign. It's Premiership not Championship you should spend more team worrying about transfers that will effect you next season
Thats why i'm here.
By the way, I've come up with a great idea, I'm going to enter the sky sports dream team using my user id as my team name, I hope you will do the same along with Rob H2O and claretcert and everyone else on here, then we can find out who has the superior football brain, which is obviously me, so what do you say? Put your dream team where your mouth is?
Playing Dream Team? Why would I want to do that when I will be watching them every week? The only people who play a fantasy Premiership game are those that support teams in the lower leagues! You are such a gimp!
