Burnley set for talks with Steven Reid

Lancashire Telegraph: Everton's Romelu Lukaku jumps over Steven Reid Everton's Romelu Lukaku jumps over Steven Reid

BURNLEY are set to hold talks with free agent Steven Reid.

The former Republic of Ireland midfielder, who has more recently been converted to a right back, is weighing up his options after coming to the end of his contract with West Brom.

At 33, it is likely he will look to prolong his playing career, but there is a possibility that he may look to make the move into coaching.

Reid began his career at Millwall, where he was team-mates with Clarets boss Sean Dyche in the late 1990s to early 2000s.

He made a £2.5million move in July 2003 to Blackburn Rovers, where he made more than 100 Premier League appearances.

The Londoner went on to join West Brom on a free transfer in the summer of 2010, after ending the previous season on loan at The Hawthorns.

Reid, who is understood to prefer to stay in the north of England, is expected to meet with Dyche this week to discuss his future.

Looks like Baird isn't going to sign then, as I am guessing Reid would be the same type of player as Baird - cover for Trippier and can deputise in a number of positions if necessary.

A bit meh, but valuable experience

Shorn Douche - building for the future. Maybe the subject of the talks will be how to attract Premier League players to Bumley and what impressed Steven about Rovers.

Don't worry yourself about Premier League Burnley, we are quite literally not in your league anymore.

On another, more relevant poin,t are there any other totally **** footballers that you would like to turn into millionaires?

Blackburn are basically like a charity for the over-rated, step right up, step right up we don't care if you are rubbish - how does £35k a week sound?

Danny Murphy - Could afford to retire after being at Slugburn
Nuno Gomes - could afford to retire after playing for Chickenburn
Ruben Rochina - Would prefer to play in Spain than for Trampburn
David Goodwillie - just rubbish but now a millionaire
Jordan Slew - I am sorry who?
Leon Best - Over-rated is not the word, can't get a game for one of the poorest sides in the Chumpionship but trousers in excess of £30k a week
Dixon Etuhu - Probably cost Blackburn in excess of £6 million to play 23 games
DJ Campbell - What a role model, and is basically a metaphor for your entire team.
Plus SIX new Portuguese millionaires that you have created.

How completely embarrassing for you, I understand why you try to turn attention onto Burnley, thinking about Blackburn is simply too painfull for you - it is called Transference - you have my sympathies, it must be tough for you to take watching Burnley usurp you in every single, possible way.

Good job we have billionaire owners then. Personally I couldn't give a fig how much they want to splash out on contracts, ain't cost me a penny. According to nnobheads like you they were walking out months, no years ago after they had asset stripped us and we would have been in administration by now. How wrong you and your ilk where. This signing would be great for us, and move us on to that next level we keep going on about. These signings so far have been staggering., Every time I open the paper we are linked with some superstar. Its like when Rovers had Walker and they were signing all the best up and coming stars of the future, looks like we are doing the same. I can see Reid being a replacement for Trippier as we now get a bigger fee for him now he's been suckered into a new deal.
The future is looking up.

'Good job we have billionaire owners then,' the reason why they are billionaires is that they can recognise when a business is loss-making and cut it adrift. When they realise that they can't just chuck money at this problem because of FFP, how long do you think they will stick around losing millions every month?

And don't worry about your bigger and better neighbours Burnley. we will be fine, after all we are playing in the most popular league in the world, a league that has the highest revenue of any league in the world and the league that is watched by billions of people every week, and is a global brand and more importantly is the league that every single supporter of every single club that ply their trade in the lower leagues (Like Blackburn) aspire to be in.

And Blackburn, well, errr, just aren't, and doesn't their jealousy seep it's way onto these pages.

What internationals?

The only international on that list was Nuno Gomes? - and he had retired from international football long before he rocked up at BolEwood for his last payday.

Blackburn - getting it wrong since 2010.

We had little cover in a lot of positions last season and it was remarked upon by the Blackburn goons that this would first of all mean certain relegation, then after a flying start to crash and burn by Christmas, then eventually to tailing off towards the end. These gimps not only got every prediction wrong (fair play to Gollum who predicted defeats every match - he got Boro right - by chance) they slated the team, individual players, the boss and the board. The side with balls won promotion, all they can do now is stalk, spout drivel, make similar desperate predictions and gouge at the gap where their testes in frustration. Suck it up girlies. We can cope with being linked to a league 2 defender or a PL striker it's mostly speculative. It doesn't matter. We won't be deducted points just to brighten your tragic and dull lives. We won't roll over just for gimps to post yah boo.

Blimey - when you look at it like that - so many internationals we've attracted then been able to move on with a promising squad to enjoy. Yet you can't even tie up a deal for a Championship reserve player when you're playing Premier League clubs all next season. I suppose your list of millionaires ends after the Directors.
What internationals?

The only international on that list was Nuno Gomes? - and he had retired from international football long before he rocked up at BolEwood for his last payday.

Blackburn - getting it wrong since 2010.
You mean like Reid and Gilks, strolling in to mop up the premiership gravy, both on mega wages of 25k a week and hardly off the treatment table. Sounds good to me

So Steven Reid could become the latest in a long, long line of Blackburn cast-offs to roll up at Turf Moor as their career winds down.

There have been a few after all. In the last ten years alone, Andy Cole, Andy Todd, Alan Mahon, Dave Jones, Jay McEveley, Keith Tracey and David May spring to mind.

I can only imagine the excitement there must be at the Turf these days. Gearing up for the biggest season in the club's history, stellar names include Marvin Sordell, Matt Gilks and Steven Reid, whilst being priced out of moves for Dawson and Deeney (wonder why you want him if Ings is staying?) Exciting times. I don't really see how you can comment on Luke Varney joining Rovers when Burnley are signing Bolton and Blackpool rejects.

2 x experienced PREMIER LEAGUE players, neither of whom will be starters but are there to bulk up our small squad and add valuable cover.

Oh and neither will be on anywhere near £25k a week.

Had a £5 million (Imagine that Blackburn, spending £5 million on a player ) bid for Deeney rejected by Watford today and Dawson wants to move to Burnley it would appear. Bryson should also be signed by the end of the week.

All those quality players arriving - and you have signed Luke Varney (PMSL) and League One's Chris 'The Lump' Brown (ROFL) - we are literally shopping in different places - you are scratching around in the bargain bucket whilst we have the pick of the Championship's best players, international players who want to play in the Premier League and we haven't even begun to scour the loan market yet.

Aww - are you sore about Burnley being SOOOOO far ahead of you?

Danny Murphy, wow he played football for England so long ago I had actually forgotten about that - I even think Blackburn were in the top flight at that point, that's how long ago it was! His last cap was 12 years ago!

David Goodwillie - three caps for mighty Scotland - the last one three years ago - he is just like Rhodes in as much as neither can get picked by the worse Scotland side in a generation.

Blackburn - ruining players international careers since forever.

Reid could do a job for you lot next season.

If he's fit he's good cover in a few positions and he's got plenty of premiership experience. You 'll a few "dogs of war" in the squad.

Has a decent box to box midfielder for us, not seen much of him recently but if he passes a medical could be worth a punt.

Don't don't give him a 'Venkeys style' four year contract!

There's a huge explosion waiting to hit your head called real life. You just posted under 3 of your many fake IDs each one idiotic dull garbage and each written as if nobody knows they are the work ofl one sad deluded gimp in Blackburn. I've noticed even Blackburn trolls don't go near the verbiage you spout. Your well know. IDs litter every item, your like the neighbour with 7 feral dogs that all foul the street, everyone gas to step over the dirty packages you leave behind, a desperate, despised, look at me type of guy every single person crosses the street to avoid. The damage you do to your sanity is hilarious, you really think anyone cares about you? If you live or die? But there's help in your situation, phonelines, true Samaritans. The life you invent is from outside your disco ball head - sick, diseased. You're trade is bile and anger, try love Gollum, go out and hug a tree.

Oh Rob, I think you'll find that real life explosion is at Turd Morgue when its realized you can't assemble a Premier League squad from the Championship reduced to clear section for 3 bob. Obviously it will all be too late by then. I'm another Blackburn troll by the way. And when you aren't busy thumbing us I think you'll find our comments over there are well respected.

No. Just offering an honest opinion.

I'm not the troll. Chill. Out.

Is it not bleedingly obvious by now?

This signing would be great for us, and move us on to that next level we keep going on about. These signings so far have been staggering., Every time I open the paper we are linked with some superstar. I can see Reid being a replacement for Trippier as we now get a bigger fee for him now he's been suckered into a new deal.
The future is looking up.
where he was team-mates with Clarets boss Sean Dyche in the late 1990s to early 2000s.what a surprise the old brown envelope gig .What a diickhead you are superstars ??????????//bizarre
