BURNLEY slipped to a second straight defeat, and a second home defeat in three games, after gifting Ipswich two first half goals.

Jay Rodriguez gave the Clarets a lifeline when he scored his 13th goal of the season with 22 minutes to go.

But they didn't keep their foot on the gas long enough to salvage something from this poor game.

Eddie Howe's side began with an improved tempo on their previous three outings, but any efforts to make it count were crushed when David Norris scored against the run of play.

Jimmy Bullard's corner was headed on by Gareth McAuley at the far right post, Brian Easton missed a chance to clear and Norris drilled his shot straight down the middle of Lee Grant's goal.

Connor Wickham added a soft second 10 minutes later as Norris turned provider.

The England Under 21s striker headed a right wing cross down into the turf and up and over a poorly positioned Grant.

Burnley looked dangerous in patches in the second half, and pulled a goal back soon after Wade Elliott replaced Chris Eagles midway through the second half.

The winger played the ball inside to Dean Marney, who moved it forward to meet the run of Rodriguez.

The striker finished well to give the Clarets hope of a fightback that failed to come to fruition in the end.

One point from a possible 12 is not the form of a side with play-off ambitions.
