Rovers fans efforts deserve huge applause
4:13pm Thursday 7th June 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
AS the chaos and inactivity around Ewood Park continues, the buzz about the club potentially being up for sale inevitably grows and grows.
It is almost as though Rovers have been put in lockdown with board members in England in the dark about what is going on and Venky’s staff in India silenced by their bosses.
Whether this means the owners are considering a sale, I still have my doubts. But, whatever is going on, this is no way to run a club.
Venky’s have yet to state they are ‘up for sale’ but that hasn’t stopped at least two groups continuing their plans to try and rescue the flagging club.
Both have their merits in different ways and, while they have their critics, no one can argue that those behind these efforts don’t have Rovers’ best interests at heart.
The fans attempts, led by Wayne Wild, to bring the club into community ownership has been transparent from the outset.
They have told everyone what they are planning to do, what their bid would involve and why they are going to such painstaking efforts to raise the funds necessary.
The efforts of corporate finance partners Seneca Partners, led by Rovers fans Ian Battersby and Ian Currie, is undoubtedly shrouded in more secrecy but that does not make it any less worthwhile.
Dealing with stinking rich investment bankers and businessmen, the nature of the business means they have to keep things confidential and on a need to know basis.
There is no way they could nail their colours to the fans trust’s mast due to their business model.
That is not to say if Seneca’s bid ever came to fruition that there would not be a part for the fans to play. Far from it.
They would want to re-engage the community and would want to restore a management structure to the club that has so sadly been lacking under Venky’s control – or lack of it.
The two Ians are not on a power trip here. They don’t want to be seen playing at being football owners and in the boardroom ‘larging’ it up on match days.
They would bring people back to the club capable of running the it – the likes of Tom Finn and John Williams would surely be high up on their agenda – and would just look to restore some of the pride that has been lost.
It is important to say neither may work. The trust may not raise the capital needed to buy the club while Seneca might never get past the first hurdle.
But at least they are trying. The football club may have become a laughing stock in recent times but the club’s supporters have done themselves proud by showing they are not going to just sit back and let the club collapse.
There are plenty of noises being made that other suitors are ready to take the club out of Venky’s hands. But BRSIT and Seneca are the only ones to so far make their interest known.
I applaud the vision behind both.
I am sure Anuradha Desai could find a suitor from abroad ready to buy from them if she wanted but surely staying local would be best for everyone concerned.
We have seen what happens when people who have no real affinity with Rovers look to buy it. I’m not sure any of us could go through a repeat of the last 18 months.
It has to be said Venky’s might not be going anywhere. If they decide they have had enough, though, at least there are people around who care.

There's only one way to sort this out, stay away for the home games and support the away games and instead of chanting "Kean out", chant "There's only one Jack Walker". Hopefully that will get the message across that the current owners and management team aren't wanted. Unfortunately the down side to this tactic is that the true heart of the club will suffer as further cut-backs are made to protect the wages and ego's of the upper echelons!

To sell the club would require a degree of disclosure that would expose the real finances of the last 18 months.
They (kean, Andreson, Venkys) simply won't and can't let that happen.
Expect a mysterious fire shortly before the administrators are called in.

Good point and I certainly hope you are right. Well worth lobbying the FA to ensure that they go through every transaction with a fine tooth comb. A full audit could well show up a number of financial anomalies; I hope that the FA are particularly diligent and examine every transaction closely. Fingers crossed this maybe the start of the end of the Venkys, Kean and Anderson and their involvement in Blackburn Rovers Football Club.
As I understand it;a full FA investigation is 'ongoing' (including the takeover).
Other bodies will naturally be brought in: FSA, FIFA, UEFA and the Police.

Come the Revolution says...
IMHO.
1 Buy a well run Premier League Club ( unfortunately it was BRFC)
2 Remove the existing Manager & Board & replace with a puppet administration.
3 Sell enough of the top players to recoup the initial investment.
4 Sell the rest of the top wage earners to cut down the weekly running costs of the club.
5 Pocket as much of the parachute payments as is legally (in your eyes) possible.
6 Execute an "Exit Strategy" with your ill-gotten gains.
IMHO. You are approaching Stage 6.
I think we will be rid of the most corrupt regime ever in the history of PL football, by mid season. I have given my pledge to BRSIT & I hope they will be in a position to pick up the pieces of our beloved club.
Finally to the "Cowboys & Indians". BRFC fans will never forget what you have done to OUR Club. You are all outsiders & though you have conned us, it won't be a pleasant future having to dodge Rovers fans for the rest of your lives.
P.S. What's happened to that ex Dingle Robert Coar. He's very quiet?.

Here's hoping.
Kean effectively hiring the people he should have nothing to do with whilst, from a previous post on another article, staff whose appointments the manager SHOULD influence are having to send their CVs to India.
Agnew's elevation to puppet-in-chief leaves us without a press officer or the farcically titled Director of Communication. Venkys have clearly realised any such role is superfluous.
Agnew, from arranging chairs for the press to supposedly running the club;Kevin "7th dan" Costner, from driving the "manager" around to managing the stadium. It really does beggar belief.
Apart from the obvious unhealthy influence Kean has with the owners, I am coming around to the theories being put forward that this goes deeper than the pure, total and complete incompetence of the owners.

I agree that it will be some time before the Venky's depart, awaiting transfer fees and the first, largest PP.
As to selling Ewood and Brockall, I belief there are restrictive covenents in place as to their future use, i.e. they cannot be used for property development. Presumably though, they could sell to a banker and lease them back to the club.
All in all, the appointments and lack of news, no season ticket information etc just makes matters worse.

KPMG are the company auditors and have signed the last accounts to be filed. They would not have signed them off were they not completely happy with them.
