ACCRINGTON Stanley look set to benefit from the Football League’s decision to reduce the League Two salary cap – with their own wage bill expected to be unaffected.

It was recently decided that from next season League Two clubs would only be allowed to spend 55 per cent of the money they generate through turnover on player wages, down from 60 per cent in previous seasons.

That could force some clubs to reduce their wage bills this summer but it is understood that Stanley are currently operating at a wages to turnover ratio of less than 50 per cent, meaning they will continue as planned in their bid to assemble a squad for the 2011/12 campaign.

Stanley’s board are due to meet in London tomorrow to discuss a range of subjects, perhaps most notably the share issue planned by Ilyas Khan to raise funds.

That share issue is expected to be voted through at the meeting, although it may still take some time for the plan to be put into action with the club keen to launch it in the right way to maximise the fundraising potential.

Stanley are tentatively aiming to generate around £1m from the issue.

Khan has worked through a number of the club’s debts since completing his takeover in April and the Reds have also now paid their latest tax bill after a delay.

The club are traditionally short of income during the summer but they are due to be boosted by a Football League payment in August.
