ACCRINGTON Stanley’s out of contract stars have been warned that they risk suffering the same frustration as Bobby Grant and John Miles if they decide to give up regular first team football at the Crown Ground and move elsewhere.

Stanley have offered new deals to the majority of their squad, with only Ian Craney under contract for next season, and are now waiting to hear whether players will decide to stay or be lured elsewhere by the prospect of higher division football or more money.

But assistant manager Jimmy Bell has insisted that there is no guarantee players will enjoy the same success at other clubs.

Grant, Stanley’s star of the 2009/10 campaign, made only seven league starts for Scunthorpe this term after earning what seemed to be a breakthrough move to a then Championship side.

Elsewhere Miles, who stunned Stanley by joining Blue Square Bet Premier side Fleetwood last summer, was eventually loaned out to Blue Square Bet North club Droylsden and has now been released.

“It doesn’t always work for players,” warned Bell.

“John Miles left and probably if you spoke to Bobby Grant he will tell you that he wished he had stayed here another year and then got his move.

“Players want to play football, it’s hard for them when they don’t.

"Sometimes you can get lost in a bigger club and you can end up as a bit-part player.”
