RAY Putterill is keen to extend his stay at Accrington Stanley until the end of the season after impressing with a superb goal in Wednesday’s Carling Cup clash against Newcastle United.

Putterill has turned his attention back to League Two as Stanley prepare to face Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium tomorrow, but his 25-yard strike against Newcastle – together with a couple more near misses – may have caught the eye of one or two clubs in a match screened live on Sky.

The former Liverpool FA Youth Cup winner, who collected Ryan Taylor’s shirt as a souvenir of the night, is only signed up until January at the moment after joining Stanley following a year out of the game because of injury.

But the 21-year-old midfielder is loving life at the Crown Ground so much that he would be more than happy to stay until the end of the season.

“I love it here,” said Putterill, who had never played senior football before this season.

“All the lads and the staff are great and I just love being here every day, “For the goal I just got the ball out of my feet and hit it.

“It was great to see it hit the back of the net.

“Maybe the goal might have caught the eye of a few, but I definitely want to stay here until the end of the season.

“I’m happy with the contract I’ve got at the minute, though. I’m happy to just be playing football again.”
