LEAM Richardson expects his Accrington Stanley future to be resolved within the next 10 days – with the former Blackburn Rovers defender keen to stay at the Crown Ground despite offers from elsewhere.

Richardson, who started his career as a youngster at Ewood Park, has been hampered by a long-standing pelvic problem over the past two seasons but returned to action at the end of last term and is confident the injury is now behind him.

The 30-year-old was on a one-year contract heavily based on appearance money last season and lost out financially as a result, so he has been reluctant to agree to the pay-as-you-play terms offered to him for the current campaign.

But Richardson is still training with Stanley, travelling to Devon with the squad over the weekend for the club’s pre-season tour, and says he will turn down interest from elsewhere if he can come to an agreement to remain at the Crown Ground.

“I’ve had a few offers that have been put to me in the last couple of weeks,” said the Leeds-based full back, who joined Stanley in 2005.

“There are a couple in our league and a couple in the Conference.

“But with the gaffer and the club being good to me through this injury period I’ve always said I’d like to stay here, so I’ve offered them first refusal.

“It will be a case of negotiating. The offers from elsewhere are fixed contracts so we’ll just have to see what happens. I think it will be sorted in the next 10 days.

“It’s got to be right for both sides. I can see where they are coming from and I’m sure the gaffer understands my situation as well.

“I’ve had a couple of chats with the manager and we’re both really pleased with how I’ve come back fitness wise.

“Obviously I’ve been out for a long time so it’s a case of looking after myself and trying to get as many games as possible by doing that.”
