ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman has bemoaned his club’s luck after they missed out on Premier League opposition in the draw for the second round of the Carling Cup.

Instead Stanley have been handed a trip to QPR, with the tie likely to take place on August 25.

The fixture will pit the cash-strapped Reds against one of the wealthiest clubs in England, with the Championship club currently owned by a consortium including the eighth richest man in the world, Lakshmi Mittal, as well as Formula 1 moguls Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone.

But it is unlikely to be selected for live screening and may not provide Stanley with the financial boost they need as they attempt to pay off a £300,000 tax bill.

“Obviously we wanted a money-spinner and I don’t think that will be a money-spinner,” said Coleman.

“We’ll have to do the next best thing and beat them.

“The way things have gone for us over the last couple of years, I wouldn’t be surprised if we were an orange and everyone else was a normal-sized ball in the draw!

"We don’t ever seem to get a money-spinner. It’s the luck of the draw but we just need a leg up.”

It will be the first meeting between the two clubs for almost 50 years.

Stanley last faced QPR back in January 1960 in the old Division Four.

The Reds booked their trip to Loftus Road after beating the Saddlers 2-1 on Tuesday night, with goals from Bobby Grant and Paul Mullin.

The tie will be played on the week commencing August 24.
