ROCHDALE have no plans to renew their interest in Paul Mullin after the striker was transfer listed by Accrington Stanley.

Mullin has been made available by Stanley as they bid to cut their wage bill by 25 per cent next season, with the 35-year-old still tied down to a further year on his contract.

The Reds were willing to offer the forward a new two-year contract if he took a substantial pay cut but Mullin felt unable to accept the deal.

The club legend spent the final weeks of the season on loan at Bradford City in another attempt to save wages but is unlikely to move to Valley Parade on a permanent basis after failing to score in six games for the Bantams.

Other clubs to have bid for Mullin in the past include Shrewsbury Town, whose accepted £75,000 offer prompted the striker’s new deal last year, and Rochdale.

Dale made their move in October, with their highest bid reaching around £50,000, but the offer was rejected.

And, even though the Bury-born forward’s valuation is likely to have decreased since then, manager Keith Hill does not intend to make a renewed bid.

“Our time and association with Paul Mullin has probably passed, and I say that with all due respect to him because he has been a great servant to Accrington,” said former Blackburn defender Hill.

“We bid for him a couple of times but I don’t think he’ll be part of our recruitment drive.”
