ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman has been told his playing budget will be reduced by 25 per cent for next season.

The club opened talks with Coleman and assistant Jimmy Bell about their own new contracts on Monday, but they were also informed that the current financial climate means they will have less to spend on players.

Stanley’s annual wage bill of £900,000 is already thought to be comfortably the lowest in the Football League.

Chairman Eric Whalley, who will depart when the imminent takeover of the club goes through, said: “They’ve got the budget now and it’s 25 per cent down.

“They won’t like it, but it was inevitable. If anyone thinks the club has got a magic wand, it’s just not there.”

County council representatives will visit Stanley today to inspect the new seats at the Fraser Eagle Stadium.

The installation work is now almost complete, with the Reds needing 2,000 seats by tomorrow to retain their place in League Two under Football League regulations.
