PAUL Cook has admitted that Accrington Stanley would find it difficult to bring Andy Procter back to the club – even if their former skipper became available in the future.

Procter joined Preston for just short of a six-figure fee in January and was quickly made captain by boss Graham Westley.

But the midfielder endured a tough time as poor results meant Westley found it difficult to win over the Preston fans and the former Stanley man has now relinquished the armband after losing his place in the final matches of the campaign.

Stanley players are often renowned for returning to the club for another spell – with Ian Craney and Bobby Grant among those to have done so in recent times – and Reds fans would be glad to see Procter back at the Crown Ground one day.

But Cook, who played alongside the 29-year-old during Stanley’s Confere-nce days, concedes that finances would make any such move difficult.

“I don’t like getting involved in talking about other people’s players,” said the Reds boss.

“Like fans, I’d like to see Paul Mullin back, Rory Prendergast back, but what they have to remember is that Andy Procter has joined a club and possibly doubled his wages.

“How can we go into that market and say,’ Come back Andy?’. For that to happen a lot of things have to fall into place.

“Andy’s a Preston player, but we all love Andy Procter. I played with him, he’s got the respect of everyone at the club, not only does he conduct himself as a lad but he’s also a consummate professional.

“We wish him success there.”
