ACCRINGTON Stanley wanted to sign off from League Two with a 30th win, but instead the Champions drew a blank for the first time in 2018.

The Reds had early chances to take the lead against Swindon Town but they were made to pay for missed opportunities when Marc Richards fired the home side in front in the 14th minute.

Keshi Anderson doubled Swindon’s lead just before the break, with former Morecambe man Paul Mullin putting the game beyond the Reds with a third goal before the hour.

In further drama, both sides ended the game with 10 men after Swindon’s James Dunne was red carded for raising both his arms towards Stanley namesake Jimmy Dunn, who received his second yellow card for his part in the skirmish.

That, and the manner of defeat, will irk Accrington boss John Coleman, who was keen to end a memorable campaign on a winning note.

Instead, it was an afternoon to forget for Stanley.

Richards was unmarked when he fired Swindon in front, converting a cross from the right at the far post.

Jordan Clark, Kayden Jackson and Billy Kee had all had chances beforehand and were kicking themselves for not making the most of them, particularly when Anderson made it 2-0 just before the break by finishing a brilliant piece of play.

Paul Mullin put the result beyond doubt after driving in from the left and beating Chapman from a tight angle.

It was not Kee’s day in front of goal at the opposite end, but the top scorer ended the season with League Two’s Golden Boot, and goalkeeper Aaron Chapman received the Golden Glove. Both were presented on the pitch after the final whistle.
