STANLEY star Sean McConville insists the pride he feels at being named in the League Two team of the year will quickly disappear if the Reds don't earn promotion to League One.

John Coleman's side travel to Colchester today three points clear at the top and know that a win in Essex and another victory at home to promotion rivals Exeter next weekend will ensure a top three finish.

Stanley have reeled off 12 wins from their last 14 games and McConville, who was joined by teammate Billy Kee in the team of the year with Coleman chosen as manager, wants to ensure the Reds finish the job.

"Individual awards mean nothing until we see a promotion," said the 29-year-old who felt a few more Stanley players could have made the selection.

"I am very proud to be selected because I have worked hard this season and it is nice to be recognised by other managers around the division.

"Credit to my teammates because it is a team game, people give individual awards out but without the team I wouldn't be getting it so full credit to the lads, I think a few more of them could have been it.

"It is a nice feather in the cap and it is nice to be recognised by our goal and my goal is promotion and that is what we are all geared towards."

Stanley could take a giant leap towards that aim with a win at Colchester, who sit four points off the play-offs and need the points to keep their top seven hopes on track.

"It will be a tough game," added McConville. "They are on a good run and will have aspirations of making the play-offs so they will see us as a a bit of a must win game I think because they are running out of games and are four points off.

"They will want to win the game and that will pose its own problems.

"But that could suit us because when teams come on and try and beat us, that is when we are at our best so that could work in our favour."
