THERE were mixed emotions for Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman after his side drew 1-1 in their FA Cup second round tie against Yeovil Town.

Stanley had gone into the break a goal down as Jordan Clarke ghosted in to glance home a Sam Foley free-kick and put the League One strugglers ahead after half an hour.

But a dominant second half performance saw central defender Tom Aldred equalise with his first goal of the season, putting the Reds into the hat for the third round draw, which takes place this evening.

“I thought we were fantastic,” said Coleman. “Yeovil had a 15-minute spell in the first half where they scored whereas we had a 75-minute spell but only managed to scored one goal.

“It was a smashing cup tie and a smashing advertisement for the FA Cup and the passion that is shown for it at a lower level.

“Although I’m disappointed with the result I’ve got to be pleased with the performance.

“For almost the whole of the second half we’ve been camped on the edge of their box and made numerous chances. Thankfully we took one but it would have been nice to take a couple more.

Anyone who can complain about how we played today should be going to watch a different sport.”

Stanley’s domination of the second half was only supplemented by Aldred’s goal with a host of chances going to waste to the dismay of the manager.

“We were moaning about not having a cutting edge and we’ve squandered some glorious opportunities again today,” he said.

“I thought our approach play was fantastic – the worrying part is when you’re not getting chances. If you’re making chances, eventually they will go in and that is what we have to be focusing on.”

With the third round draw taking place tonight, it would be easy for a lucrative outcome to become a distraction before the clash at Huish Park but Coleman is refusing to look past the Glovers.

“I’ll watch the draw but it’s immaterial because, for me, we aren’t in the draw. We’re in the second round draw and we’ve got Yeovil, which is what I said when we drew at Notts County in the last round.”
