TWO directors have confirmed their resignations from the Accrington Stanley board.

Murray Dawson and financial director Alan Pickup made the decision to step down amid the recent wage crisis, citing ‘a differing opinion’ on the governance of the club.

Stanley were two weeks late paying salaries earlier this month but wages were eventually paid and the club have now put short-term measures in place to prevent a recurrence this season, with directors agreeing to put their own money in.

The Reds are keen to focus on their battle to stay in League Two before looking at longer term plans to restructure their finances, something that is expected to happen in the summer to make the club more self-sufficient.

Dawson, who had been heavily involved in the Reds’ recent share issue, and Pickup were part of an 18-strong board at Stanley.

Stanley managing director Rob Heys said: “With a board of 18 directors you are going to get differences of opinions sometimes over the way things should be done.

“We’d like to thank them for the work they’ve done for us.

“I think they maybe wanted certain things to happen quicker than they were happening.

“At the moment the priority is very much on getting enough points to stay in the league then the summer will be an ideal time to make changes and look at new ideas.”
