Grella set for Rovers exit

VINCE Grella expects to return to Italy for next season after admitting his Blackburn Rovers career will be over this summer.

The injury-prone Australian has not featured for Rovers since September due to injury and, with his contract expiring in the summer, Grella knows his Ewood adventure is over.

He told Tuttosport: “I will be released in June, next year I wil return to play in Italy.”

Grella has only played 45 times for Rovers since being signed by Paul Ince from Torino in 2008.

Good riddance! A total disgrace of a 'man' who happily admits that he will only leave at the end of his contract! Surely he has drained more than enough from the club over the past 4 seasons?
Pathetic excuse for a 'professional' footballer. Don't know how he has the brass neck to stay to the bitter end?

What it doesn't say in the LET (but I read elsewhere) is that Grella is on 30k a week wage PLUS 6 grand for every game he plays......wonder just how long he has been fit to play? He would have made a difference.

Also wonder at the criminal shortsightedness and or ignorance of our owners....

How can they let us struggle for survival in the prem when we have had so many good experienced players available but not playing because it will cost them a few grand extra in salary and bonuses?

Grella, Salgado, Nelson, Emerton, Samba, and maybe also the same with Rochina and Riberio....all either not here or not playing because of this small minded fiscal stupidity.

If we get relegated (we wont) then it is clear that their penny pinching actions will be the sole cause of our demise...

Kevin Davies wins the worst transfer deal we did. Dont forget that James Beattie went to Southampton as a £1m make-weight in the deal.

Goulon is a more recent, but less expensive, flop.

Olsen off to Greece....Yak off to France.... and the club face their most challenging six weeks in an attempt to survive the Premier and avoid the "black hole" of Championship and possible League One football.
Grella going "anywhere" is good news, of course....but the thought of some of these players possibly having their minds on next season,s contract and being elsewhere, is not good news !!
Blackburn Rovers seems to be heading towards being a squad of "up & coming" players on average and below average wages....and the better then average players eventually traded for a healthy profit.
Likely outcome being a average team, self financed by profitable trading, with the signing of the odd short-term loan players who,s carreer needs resurrecting.... when the balance sheet allows, of course !!

Pretty much as expected, as are all the other 'reportings'.
This was always their agenda right from day one.
The days of the 'regular squad' are now a thing of the past, this coming and going of players is the norm. now .
Its basically 'trading', and has very little to to with 'sporting entertainment'.
And far less to do with the supporters.
I think that in the next 5 weeks or so there will not be a single optomist left who still thinks that Venkys can yet come good.

It is the exact opposite of the policy that kept us in the Prem league for years. Instead of the odd player moving on for profit and reinvest well and keep a steady ship of experienced pros we have suddenly had more turnover than the Titanic!

Are we now going to sink? Worried to say the least but we have to put that to one side until we are safe or the Fat Lady appears in song. Don't renew ST's until we get action and communication though?

What really is the truth behind the Grella situation even cruciate ligament injures, supposed to be one of the worst you can get don't take this long to overcome,I suspect it's all down to money,is this the reason Dunny seems to be now limited to the bench since he signed a new contract,is the majority of his wage appearance money it's not that long ago that when he was in need of substituting Keane wouldn't take him off for love nor money, you can't believe a word that comes of Ewood these days,it makes you think though. On a waste of space players you can add Barry(I'm homesick)Ferguson and Christian Dailly.

Kevin Davies would give him a run for his money. . . . and how about Scott Dann? A shocking waste of money.
Kevin Davies wins the worst transfer deal we did. Dont forget that James Beattie went to Southampton as a £1m make-weight in the deal. Goulon is a more recent, but less expensive, flop. Anyone know why Modeste doesnt get a look in? He was very lively on his debut....
Worst deals? How about Martin Britt? Les Chappell? Alan Gilliver? John O'Mara? Norman Bell?
Tony Diamond, Tony Finnigan, Georgi Donis, Matty Holmes...etc
Matty Holmes scored the goal in the 1-1 between West ham and Man U the day we won the Premiership - legend!
.
Tony Finnigan once beat the entire opposition team in a dribble in an away game at West Brom - problem was it was after we all shouted shoot! and he ended up passing back to Terry Genoe!
.
There can't be many fans that have the contrasting memories of Rovers fans over the last 50 years? Relegation in 1966, wilderness years, Promotion from Div 3, FM Cup win, Uncle Jack Arrives (MEN -Jack Walkers wallet knocks Fergie for Six as Shearer signs!), Play off's losses and final win, Premier League Champions, Relegation, Back Up, League Cup winners andloads of Cup quarter and semi finals and now Venkys and Kean (arghhhhh) Spot the bad bit!!
.
Phew......33rd......

Tony Green from Blackpool, I seem to recall (a Johnny Giles type player of that era) came and was injured very soon, or arrived that way as he was highly rated!
Very much in the Jimmy Kerr way/style.
tony Green was a fantastic player for Blackpool 1970's can't ever remember him coming to Rovers, but prove me wrong.
You're right and I'm mistaken!!!

I was sure we had a look at him at some point (maybe post his cruciate). Having looked on Wiki didn't realise how far back I was was reminiscing.
I may then be confusing his situ. with the Jimmy Kerr one.

My memory is very similar players, but Green the most polished.
He finished as a Magpie after 33 games, think I saw him about 4 or 6 times against us, for t'Pool.

In their (Pool) Hall of fame he is listed as the one for the 60's !
I am finding that hard to believe, and must also put me much older than I thought I was:-).
Maybe it's because he left in 71.

45 games? Does that include practice 5 a side games!
Parasite!
Not sure about this being baldy's fault, Grella wasn't exactly a regular under Ince and Sam.

Sent some shivers down my spine there Bazzer! Joe Craig, Ronnie Radford (though he had been a good un) and Grabbie NO1 for me because of the size of the fee? . The pity is Grella did actually look a decent player when he managed a few games but alas a few it was.
Joe Craig will never be forgotten for the thunderous strike against Nottingham Forest, at their place, which put us 1 up against the European Champions.
You got me there Bazzer - can't get the memory banks going for that game! . I remember us drawing away in an FA Cup Tie with forest when we should have won and beating them in the replay at Ewood - what year was that? . Yep it was John Radford and he was an Arsenal great but him and Scottish International legend Joe Craig got us relegated! . Also in our darkest days as we faced relegation to Div 3 or where in Div 3 who was that blond fat center half we signed who was slower then a snail? . 33rd........
Forest scored 6 afterwards. League Cup second round. We had held them at Ewood. I have no idea as to your blond fat centre half. Bobby Bell? I recall he was blond but I only saw him once, at Walsall.

argue all you want, pal! In my opinion, Grella is THE WORST WASTE OF MONEY EVER BAR NONE and should have been potted years ago!
Atleast Grabbi and Davies were fit to play and tried to perform.
This man has just seen Rovers as a meal ticket to milk and has consistently feigned injury throughout the duration of his 4 year contract.
-
Bar none- the biggest waste of money ever
Who does Grella think he is? he states he is going back to Italy, its a big call. Lets face it who would want him after his legendary no shows at Blackburn. Reminds me of a certain Stuart Munro. Whats ironic is Stuart Munro is now coaching footy in Vince Grella's home town of Dandenong.

Good call. It may have been Graham, but I would not have called him fat. Typically robust and stocky as a centre should be.
At his time at Rovers Graham did a great job for us, and was very well liked.
That third division title campaign the most memorable.
