STEVE Kean has hit out at fans who booed him after Blackburn Rovers scored their first goal on Saturday – insisting that anyone who wanted his side to lose is not a true supporter of the club.

Yakubu’s incredible four goals gave Rovers a 4-2 home win over Swansea at the weekend, lifting the club off the bottom of the Premier League table and handing Kean a real boost ahead of today’s scheduled meeting with the board.

There had been suggestions that Venky’s would think long and hard about the manager’s future should they lose to Swansea but Kean hopes the board meeting will now be a happier affair, while again insisting he has never had any doubts that he has the full support of the owners.

Victory, though, did not stop post-match protests from going ahead and a number of fans also booed and chanted for Kean’s removal after Yakubu opted celebrate his first goal with the manager.

Kean admitted to being disappointed by the timing of those chants and warned that any fans who did not want the team to win the game were not helping the club.

“I would think it is unnecessary for fans to boo after we have scored a goal,” said the Scot.

“I prefer to call fans supporters, and supporters support the club through thick and thin, through good times and bad times.”

He added: “I would like to think supporters support and they cheer when the ball goes in.

“I would hate to think there were people in the ground wishing we had been beaten.

“If that is the case, I don’t think they are supporters.

“I don’t know if that’s the case, but if when you score, they don’t cheer but boo, it would be disappointing.

“As long as they cheer the lads. If they want to boo me, they can boo me because when we win I give the credit back to the lads.

“But I hope with victories and performances, the minority - I don’t think there were 20,000 outside protesting - will get smaller and eventually they will feel too embarrassed.”

Venky’s are expected to be represented at today’s board meeting by director Vineeth Rao and Kean said: “On the back of a win is always nice for everyone.

“It is nice for the board members, the owners, myself.

“The content of the meeting would have been the same – it is about the window.

“It is about how we progress and how we strengthen the squad.

“But there will probably be smiles over the coffee now rather than frowns.

“I don’t feel under pressure. I have signed a new contract and you can see the players are performing well.

“The players have always been playing for me. There has never been any crack in the dressing room.”
