Matt Jansen showed once again that he has the Midas touch when he preserved the Magpies’ unbeaten record with a stoppage-time goal to keep them top of the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

The former Blackburn Rovers striker came on in the 72nd minute for his first appearance of the season and glanced home a header from a well-flighted Tom Ince free kick two minutes into added time.

Chorley had to stage a fight-back after conceding a soft goal through Gary Birch on 36 minutes.

Magpies keeper Russ Saunders again displayed cool handling under pressure but Chasetown were also left to regret a couple of good chances after the break which got away.

Chorley’s best opportunities after the break saw Andy Russell head over before Steve Foster force a very smart save from the Chasetown keeper shortly before Jansen struck to make the journey back up the M6 a happier one.
