GARRY Flitcroft is confident he can repay the faith shown by Chorley owner Trevor Hemmings and steer the club to play-off glory on Friday.

In just his first season in charge at Victory Park, Flitcroft is one step away from promotion following Monday’s Evo-Stik First Division play-off semi-final victory over Curzon Ashton.

An ecstatic crowd of over 1,500 saw the Magpies clinch a 2-1 win and set up Friday night’s final against AFC Fylde, when the Magpies will again enjoy home advantage.

It would cap a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for Chorley if they landed promotion, after finishing a lowly 16th in the table 12 months ago.

But backed by multi-millionaire Hemmings since arriving last summer, Flitcroft has brought new life to one of non-league’s sleeping giants and now the former Blackburn Rovers captain is hoping to give the club’s owner something to celebrate.

“From my point of view, it would be nice for Trevor Hemmings and (Chorley chairman) Ken Wright if we can get this club promoted,” said Flitcroft.

“They care for the club and have backed me 100 per cent. Trevor came down to watch Preston reserves a little while back and I had a good chat with him.

“He told me that I was doing a good job and it was nice to hear that from him.

“Fingers crossed, if we go up, Trevor will continue to give us great support.”

The Magpies boss added: “To be honest, I can’t ask for anything more from these bunch of lads. They’ve been great.

“They are really up for it now. They want this more than anything, they’re one game away from promotion and the want to finish the job.

“We’ve got a really good side and I’m confident we can beat AFC Fylde on Friday.”
