JASON Roberts has been named in Blackburn Rovers’ senior Premier League squad today after the transfer window slammed shut with him still at Ewood Park.

The striker had agreed with Sam Allardyce it would be best for him to move on if possible but, with no acceptable offer having been made, he remains a Rover.

Rovers were expecting a Premier League club, understood to be Wigan, to make a bid yesterday.

The lack of movement meant Rovers dropped their interest in Bulgarian Ivelin Popov.

Roberts is unlikely to be allowed out on loan once the window opens again for Championship clubs.

This afternoon, Rovers announced a 21-man squad to comply with new rules which mean top-flight clubs have to register a maximum of 25 players with the Premier League.

It leave four available spaces should any free agents attract Rovers’ attention.

The full squad is: Paul Robinson; Jason Brown; Frank Fielding; Mark Bunn; Chris Samba; Gael Givet; Pascal Chimbonda; Ryan Nelsen; Brett Emerton; Vince Grella; Steven Nzonzi; Keith Andrews; Michel Salgado; David Dunn; Martin Olsson; Morten Gamst Pedersen; El-Hadji Diouf; Nikola Kalinic; Mame Biram Diouf; Jason Roberts; Benjani.

In addition, Rovers have seven players under the age of 21: Aaron Doran, Gavin Gunning, Grant Hanley, Junior Hoilett, Phil Jones, Amine Linganzi and Josh Morris.

Changes can be made to the squad once the transfer window re-opens in January.
