So far it has been a disappointing January transfer window for Rovers, as at the time of writing it seems that we will not be making any additions to our squad.

However Mark Hughes and John Williams have shown a knack in recent years of surprising everyone by holding out until the time is right to get their man, so here's hoping...

> > If the right players aren't available then Rovers are wise not to panic buy, as some other clubs seem to have done, but there is no denying that new players coming in at this stage of the season can give the side a boost, memorable additions being Kevin Gallacher and Graeme Le Saux back in 1993, and Jeff Kenna in 1995.

> > There is one move that has gone through however, which may be of interest to our fans as Andy Cole joins a small yet growing list of players to take a step down the league by joining our footballing neighbours Burnley after playing for Rovers.

> > There are always contrasting opinions about the ex-Newcastle striker and his abilities but I personally feel Cole can still do a decent job at a lower level. However there is no doubt that Andy has an upside and a downside to his game, and just for the benefit of our Claret friends I can think of two examples of this: > > He does often need several chances to score and this was demonstrated whilst playing for Man Utd against West Ham on the final day of the 1994-95 season. Despite numerous golden chances, Coley failed to hit the net in a nil-nil draw, which ultimately saw the Premiership Title head deservedly over to Ewood.

> > However, it's not all bad. Andy can also pop up with a vital strike in a big game occasion, like when he scored the winner for Rovers in the Worthington Cup Final, making Rovers one of the first Clubs in the World of Football to win a major trophy in three different centuries.
