JOHANN Berg Gudmundsson is looking forward to continuing to 'enjoy the ride' with Burnley after signing a new contract.

The Iceland winger had 12 months remaining on the deal he signed when moving from Charlton for £2.5million in the summer of 2016, but he put any speculation over his future to bed by signing a new three-year contract.

Gudmundsson was pleased to get the deal done before heading to this summer's World Cup with Iceland and to cap a fine year for himself by penning fresh terms.

"It’s done before the World Cup, I’m happy with that," the 27-year-old said.

"It’s been a good year for me and the club. It’s a place where I feel comfortable, my family like it here, it’s nice to sign a new deal.

"As early as you can is always nice to finish things off, you can get your mind on playing football, no contract talks or anything like that, so it’s a good thing to finish off early, especially with the World Cup."

Gudmundsson spoke to Sean Dyche before agreeing to extend his deal until the summer of 2021, and now he's looking forward to more adventures with the Clarets, starting with the Europa League next season.

"We spoke before I signed it, he said it was fantastic news for me and my family. It’s a good thing for me and for the club," he said.

"We go into next season, enjoy it again, it’s going to be tough to do better than this season but we’ve got to enjoy the ride, the Europa League and keep our status in the Premier League because that’s where you want to play."
